not a stones fan but fuck w this one heavily. It’s not a rip off of sgt peppers, if anything it shares more DNA with Piper / Saucer era Floyd

this is the most batshit stones album and it's pretty funny that they went in a completely different direction after this one. imagine if today the stones were seen as a psychedelic band lol. i don't know what they were thinking with this one but it's pretty, pretty good and i'm glad it exists.

This is probably one of the most out there records of 1967, which is really saying something. Insanely underrated, though.

Quite an incredible album. Funny how at the time contemporary critics viewed it as a Sgt. Peppers rip-off, but really, it sounds absolutely NOTHING like Sgt. Peppers, so those comparisons were just lazy to start with. This album covers brand new territory for psychedelic music in 1967, and it's quite a journey to listen to. Every track is quite extraordinary, and it is by FA the best album the Stones had released up to that point. It would only be bettered again and again and again in the next few years, as the Stones would go on an amazing streak on masterpieces.

Totally agree to 2000 Light Years! Also the album's got some other great high lights as The Lantern, In Another Land or the amazing She's A Rainbow, but have to say as a complete album it's not my favorite of them.

Please tell me which song on this album sounds anything like any song on Sgt. Pepper.

I can see how if The Beatles are your only understanding the 60s whatsoever, you would think that.

This one's taken a drubbing over the years but it seems that with the passing of time people are starting to realize that it's actually a quality record. In fact I would say that every song on here is at least pretty good and a few are absolutely terrific: "She's a Rainbow," "2000 Man," "Citadel," "The Lantern"... this is really well done Psychedelic Rock. The Stones were of course much more comfortable playing "Roots Rock," but this and their other '66-'67 albums prove that they were as adept as anybody at playing Psychedelic Pop/Rock.

Do you think so? Interesting choice. It would be up there pretty high for me but not my #1. But it sure does have a ton of great songs on it. Also have always liked the cover art!

I love it! The Rolling Stones proved they can be just as psychedelic as the other groups in that era. The Rolling Stones are more than R&B, Blues Rock, Folk Rock, Hard Rock, Pop Rock etc... -- they can also be deeply psychedelic as well! A very versatile band! <3

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band + The Piper at the Gates of Dawn + Their Satanic Majesties Request = Perfection. 1967 год был особенным и... психоделическим ;)

Possibly the best cover of 60's psychedelia. Underrated too. This album, Sgt. Peppers & The Smile Sessions were all seriously sophisticated stuff at the time they were released. Sure, it might of seemed pretentious when it was released but at least this material was something new.
