The earliest known examples of music commonly identified as "Metal" mainly from the late 1960s and early 1970s, these include hard rock pioneers such as Cream, Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin, but more obscure Heavy Psych, Hard Blues and Progressive Rock groups that sprung up in the US, UK, and Germany as well. Also falling into this category include early punk and garage groups like The Stooges and MC5.
