Like sola_tido said 9 years ago, I love it when the VU gets into a groove and explores it or just pounds away at it for twenty minutes. A couple of the tracks here sort of remind me of Neu!'s "Motorik beat," the way Mo's drumming just pummels away steadily and then you've got the band playing these hypnotic, clanging/chiming guitar pieces over top of it. Love it. Both versions of "Hey Mr. Rain" are fantastic and also very hypnotic, then you throw Cale's scraping, droning viola on top and it's just heaven. Stuff like this is the clearest example of the group's influence on Spacemen 3. I just love and admire this band so much. One of the few groups whose stuff I snatch up without hesitation any time I find something new, whether it's an album, an archival release, a bootleg or whatever.

The "outtakes and unreleased" album "Another View" was initially only available in the first VU box set (circa late 1980s I think). It has since been released on its own and on CD. Highly recommended. Always a big VU fan, I actually found that I was playing "VU" (the 1st official album of outtakes and unreleased versions) more than the four original albums. So getting hold of the second official outtakes album "Another View" was like Christmas and Birthday all rolled in one. It's just my personal taste but I like the VU most when they get into a long groove and just keep on going, and this track typifies that aspect of their talent. "Hey Mr Rain [version II]" is the missing track 7 on this album's page. It can be found here: http://www.last.fm/music/The+Velvet+Underground/_/Hey+Mr.+Rain+%28Version+II%29 The other missing track is track 4: "Ride Into The Sun", but I cannot see this anywhere playable on Last.fm. :-)
