50 years old today. Still one of the best albums ever released, and a part of my soundtrack for all of my life.

Great album, but I only ever seem to respond to it properly when it's cold, grey and miserable.

absurdly overrated; 2 great songs, 2 awful ones, one pretty good one and a whole lot of mediocre ones.

A great album. I like it better than After the Gold Rush. I agree, it's not his best album, but it's definitely in his top 10, and that's a stacked top 10. No weak albums there.

Hugely overrated. After the Gold Rush and On the Beach are infinitely better. This sounds like he's not even trying!

@hessel-z I agree with you. Harvest is a very good album, but it's far from Neil's best and I don't think it really warrants its reputation as a classic.

Yeah, what the hell is his problem not just giving his music to you for free so you can cherry-pick which songs you want to listen to whenever you want to listen to them free of charge? Considering how much Neil Young owes you, he should probably do your grocery shopping for you too, but I bet he won't, the prick.

I do prefer After the Gold Rush as well. It's hard to separate them- kind of mirror versions of each other

It's slipped a little in my estimation in the year and a half since discovery, but only a little. Those four pristinely-recorded songs (Out on the Weekend/Harvest/Heart of Gold/Old Man) are unreal. The others fill out the record well (especially A Man Needs a Maid and Words) but I do still wish Bad Fog and Journey through the Past had been on here. In place of Are You Ready for the Country and There's a World, say.

Not anywhere near as good as After the Gold Rush. Honestly, I don't even think I like it at all.

What a magnificent album. I wish we could've gotten more of the acoustic Stray Gators stuff just to fill it out (Bad Fog of Loneliness is one of my favorite Neil recordings, period, and full-band Journey through the Past is lovely too), but even without 'em, this album is just incredible. And what a trip it takes you on! Moving from the lonely-prairie expanses of Out on the Weekend, Harvest, Heart of Gold, and Old Man, to the bouncy fun of Are You Ready for the Country?, the dramatic vistas of A Man Needs a Maid and There's a World, and the mournful but explosive Alabama and Words, with the stark nakedness of The Needle and the Damage done right inbetween...

Neil Youngs greatest Hits = Complete Harvest Album + a selection of other assorted songs ... This is a mathematical fact people!
