United States of Eurasia (+Collateral Damage)

Wiki

  • Length

    5:48

United States of Eurasia is the fourth track of The Resistance. The song, along with an outro entitled Collateral Damage, was released on July 21st, 2009 as a free download after a 6-day marketing campaign.

Released as the prize for Muse's "Ununited States of Eurasia" treasure hunt, the song features stringed instrumentation reminiscent of the Lawrence of Arabia soundtrack and John Williams's soundtracks (Slave Children's Crusade from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom in particular). It has been likened to the style of Queen.

Collateral Damage is an arrangement of Nocturne in E flat major, Op. 9, No. 2, by Frédéric Chopin, with hummed vocal and stringed accompaniment. Throughout the song, in the background, there is the sound of children playing, then the sounds of planes flying overhead, falling bombs, and children's screams, and ends with another plane flying overhead.
