I had purchased the album (having been a Heartbreakers fan and idolized John and Laurel Canyon, having lived in Topanga Canyon). I had just started USC in 1970, in LA, when to my surprise one lunchtime in the middle of campus, there he was with Almond, Mark, & Thompson doing the material from Turning Point. I sat on the grass, mezmerized, enthralled. I turned 60 yesterday but it is all as though it was yesterday... I still listen (hence being here) to what Mayall does.. I went on to listen as the Mark-Almond band created The City.. Amazing... Thanks all for being here too...

I have John Mayall's 'Turning Point' which dates from the same period as the Blues Jazz Fusion album, and which marked the start his experimental period - i.e. drummerless, and replacing Mick Taylor with a saxaphonist. I'm quite fond of the album, but prefer the likes of 'The Blues Alone' and 'Blues From Laurel Canyon', which have both great songs and great playing. Here - with Turning Point - the songs are sometimes a poor excuse to unleash the instruments in free flow. Great playing, but it needs to be because more often than not there's not much else! However I will say that So Hard To Share from 'Turning Point' is a great track.
