Jem

Biography

Jem (born Jemma Griffiths on June 18, 1975, in Penarth, Wales) is a known for her musical stylings. Her debut album, Finally Woken, has defied the categorization of some music critics with a fusion of genres. While some of her songs are straight up s, some of her tracks verge on .

Her throaty, voice draws immediate comparisons to Imogen Heap, Beth Orton and, to a greater extent, Dido. However, Jem herself prefers to let her musical work stand on its own, rather than be compared to other artists.

Along with electronic producer Guy Sigsworth (Björk, Frou Frou), she wrote the song Nothing Fails, which was later reworked by Madonna and appeared on her 2003 album, American Life.

Jem’s music is used in the series Grey’s Anatomy, with PlayThey, PlaySave Me and PlayWish I featuring in the first season and as background of trailers from Desperate Housewives in German Television.
