How crazy would I be if I said this reminded me of blonde by frank ocean? Idk, they both have a similar vibe

This is not the genesis album i try to show people first. I'm too greedy, its just too special to share. Its soundscapes are a sharp transition from the quasi-medieval sound they developed since Trespass.

As far as I know, there are people who think the first disc (first two sides on the original LP) is fairly strong, but find the second half underwhelming. I couldn't disagree more. I personally think the second half is outstanding, possibly better than the first half. Songs like "The Lamia", "The Colony of Slippermen" "Silent Sorrow in Empty Boats" (Their experiment with ambient) and "Riding the Scree" (Possibly Tony's best synth work ever) in particular shine.

Now that you mention it, I do think the first half is better, but there are a few standouts on side 3 especially. "Lilywhite Lilith" and "Anyway" are immediately easy to love.

It took me years, and I mean years to fully immerse myself in the 2nd half, but when I did it made me appreciate the album much more than I ever did before.

It helped me get into the album much more quickly that I sampled some of the highlight tracks before I played it. Specifically: "The Lamb Dies Down on Broadway", "Back In N.Y.C.", and "Carpet Crawlers". When I listened to the full album, I already had these songs to look forward to, and it made it less daunting.

Seems like I wasn't the only one having a hard time digesting The Lamb. But man, the story is still a (work in progress) puzzle to me, but that's what I love too! I wasn't really a big lyrics person (being a musician, instrumentalist), but after getting DEEPLY into especially this album, it really opened a whole new dimension to me. What a fantastic piece of art this album is, really.

I really tried to like the album in 2008. According to my Last.fm stats I've listened to the individual songs in total 500 times. I really dug The Cave but for the album as a whole the spark never jumped over. Now - after giving it a rest for almost 8 years - I love it! I've just put it into my CD player and I'm having a blast.

I've been listening to this one on CD in the car a lot lately. This album has always puzzled me to some extent. Nursery Cryme, Foxtrot and Selling England by the Pound were albums I took to more or less immediately and were easily digestible. The Lamb... meanwhile is one that you really have to spend some time with for its secrets to reveal themselves. I still don't think I've cracked it completely, but I do believe it's a brilliant effort, quite possibly their best.

I really want to listen to this one, but Spotify only has a few tracks from it. :(

This album is possibly the most '70s prog styled album I'll ever like, and it's pretty amazing. Time shall tell if Gentle Giant proves me wrong.

The last masterpiece of Genesis. Fantastic songs like "The Lamia", "In The Cage" and "The Carpet Crawlers"

Probably closer to Taxi Driver but this is a worthy comparison for sure. The recent Final Cut Coppola put out has the feeling of a great double album.

My first and only Genesis concert live, back in 74, and for me the last “genuine” Genesis album. A masterpiece. :)
