I got this album from a friend for Christmas in 2001, and initally I was kinda dissapointed because it wasn't nearly as good as the 2 before it, but I was poor so I had little choice but to play this album for the rest of that summer. I'm not sure if it's the nostalgia goggle's or if i've learnt to appreciate it more with time but I'm really enjoying it at the moment. It's definitely better than the 2 albums that came after it, maybe better than Strange little Birds too.

This album was/is a big challenge even for so called open-minded people. It is a masterpiece beside the commercial fail (but only in terms of comparison to two predecessors). It took much more caurage to put this one out than any other album of them. It has the hole story behind about vulnerability, otherness, maturation. acceptance of your truly Self. So it is not strange that this album take a place in lots of the most overlooked/underrated albums of all times. Personally it is their strongest but surely their least accepted album.

"Probably their weakest collectively, but Nobody Loves You and So Like A Rose are amongst their best works." This.

There are, of course, a few new sides to Garbage here - a few tender ballads and more hip-hop rhythms...

Funny you should say that the b-sides are more interesting than the singles; the entire album has the feel of a great b-sides compilation... A curious, sugar-sweet (albeit stripped back) mix between the dark, fresh as mint pop songs of their debut and the more souped up, sex-starved machinations of 2.0... and yet, there is a puzzling consistency here. If you peel back the layers and analyze the lyrics, Beautifulgarbage comes across as Garbage's less focused answer to No Doubt's Return Of Saturn... "This life can turn a good girl bad" - that line embodies the album and album cover. Reorder the tracks (for instance switch 3 & 4 around) and Beautifulgarbage makes a lot more sense... If I had my way, it would resemble something like this: 1. Shut Your Mouth 2. Androgyny 3. Cherry Lips (Go Baby Go!) 4. ‘Til The Day I Die 5. Can’t Cry These Tears 6. Cup Of Coffee 7. Silence Is Golden 8. Breaking Up The Girl 9. Drive You Home 10. Parade 11. Nobody Loves You 12. So Like A Rose

it's strange because this is probably their weakest album yet it is still mindblowingly awesome

Probably my fave album by them, those fans who dislike it probably need to learn to put up with a little diversity.

The cardinal sin to rock purists, they went all "Autoamerican" and sewed in more overt pop elements. This, along with "Version 2.0" are their most forward thinking efforts, and least dated. While I'll say there a few spots that drag, the overall theme of "beautifulgarbage" wins more than it loses.

What's wrong with it, withered_fairy? I'd say too many mediocre songs. That's a nice startin' point...

this album brought new energy, new wave of combinations in modern music art. for someones who did not understand the purpose of this beautiful garbage experimet, it is not the point of taste or like it or not, it s the point of changes!!! "You free your mind and you re androgyny!"

It's not my favourite Garbage record but it has to be known by ALL that's it's b-sides are amazing. Use Me, Happiness Pt. 2, April Tenth, Enough Is Never Enough, Confidence and Begging Bone - these ones in particular are top notch. Has anyone noticed that a lot of the beautifulgarbage era b-sides were very electronic, I'm guessing that they didn't really fit in well with the contemporary retro pop rock sound that the album seemed to be themed by.

This is truly my favorite garbage album. I understand why it gets a lot of slack, but I have never enjoyed a garbage album like I enjoy this one.

A lot of b-sides from this album are better than the songs that made the cut.
