I wish people would listen to more of their songs other than The Final Countdown, they have so many bangers

Europe = most underrated surface level heavy metal MF = most overrated surface level heavy metal

Opinions, but I don't think the bands are even remotely similar. Not sure many would call Europe heavy metal either, more hard rock or glam metal. MF's Hank was in a band simply called Fate which was a lot more similar to Europe for comparison. Both Europe and MF are awesome bands though, just not comparable on a fair level imo.

Europe's first 2 LPs (their best) are definitely Metal. To be fair, a lot of stuff that's considered Metal even by the "true metal" crowd is hardly heavier than Europe. I think Fate is also better than Mercyful Fate. More tasteful/mature songwriting.

How refreshing! Most groups named after a place, aren't actually from that place. Europe bucked that trend, as they really are from Europe!

Their body of work was largely ignored because of the success of songs like The Final Countdown and Carrie, but glad to know their newest stuff is attracting some fans. It's sad that the Deep Purple - Thin Lizzy influence is lost on people who won't dig through their catalog.

yeah it's actually the reason behind their name. Also it's on TFC somehow, with Danger on the Track

That's a real shame as well, I saw Europe not long before all this covid crap and The Final Countdown definitely was not the highlight of the evening and the crowd didn't seem to feel that way either. I especially enjoyed the newer stuff a lot more.

Exactly, I really enjoy Superstitious and Prisoners in Paradise as well. In the future to Come and Halfway to Heaven are great as well.

same could be said about Thin Lizzy or even Kansas, and i haven't even done a deep dive into the latter. Classic rock radio and in general the slow death of the album format takes its toll on many artists

Были бы отличной хэви группой, если бы не свернули в AOR, который сделал их группой одной песни в широком смысле слова. Они ни чем не уступают Dokken или White Lion.

Hard to believe these guys wrote the National Anthem of Sweden. Well, until it was changed to "Bitch Lasagna."

Walk the Earth sounds like a killer DIO song. I have no idea why this band isn't so much bigger

Эту группу можно обожать за 2 супер-хита - "The final contdown" и "Carrie". Считаю эти песни выдающимися, одними из лучших в 20 веке вообще и уж в 80-х тем более!

I was never a fan of Europe, apart from The Final Countdown. As they were main tour support for Deep Purple, I checked out the new album, and I'm pleasantly surprised. I especially like the title track. Walk the Earth and The Final Countdown were the highlights of the whole night supporting Deep Purple last night! Deep Purple didn't play any of my favourites, but it would've been a close call even if they did.

I only had The Final Countdown which is on the famous As Seen on TV compilation Monsters of Rock and then I had to get their albums. They are a super good hard rock band from Sweden! I need to get more of their music one day.
