This was so huge at the time but now I wonder why. It ages terribly compared to their previous albums.

Not for me. If anything, it as aged like a fine wine through the years. I think, Money for Nothing shows it's age but, still rocks and is a 80's staple. However; Why Worry, The Man's Too Strong and Brothers in Arms still stand the test of time.

rating 10/10 [2] The Man's Too Strong is the stand-out song for me. A masterpiece.

If this album had Sultans of Swing, it would one of my favorites of all time. It still is their best by far, and this band created absolutely fantastic music. The whole album is amazing, if you think it's overrated you don't get Dire Straits' music. This is their magnum opus.

Amazing album, each song is different, from the very poppy Walk of Life, to the hard-edged Money for Nothing, to the Everly Brothers-inspired Why Worry, to the world music beats of Ride Across the River, this album is as diverse as a Pink Floyd album, and Mark Knopfler does his best David Gilmour impersonation as well on the guitar tracks. Absolutely love it. I'm torn between this and Love Over Gold, but because of the diversity, I have to go with this one as the ultimate Dire Straits album.

[album artist=Dire Straits]Brothers in Arms[/album] is one of the most boring albums I've listened to in a long time.

When i was a kid, i broke my leg on a school sking trip and spent 2 days stuck in a french hospital bed with nothing but this album on cassette and a walkman with dying batteries which my teacher let me borrow. I listened to it continuously. It saved my life and i'll always be grateful for that :)

I love how each song has its own character and style; Money for Nothing is very 80's new wave with its distorted guitar chords, Walk of Life with its bontempi style organ, Your Latest Trick with the saxophone, Ride Across the River with the flutes and Brothers in Arms is just simple and epic. It really is a brilliantly varied album.

Epitomised the 1980's for me especially in the Money For Nothing song. We used to tie t-towels to our heads and air guitar at parties to the bewilderment of non SC friends. And everytime we meet up we used to do it, but some friends now are getting a little self concious so they dont air guitar anymore. Fabo DS.....
