Bought it when I didnt know the record before. Inside the 1001 albums challenge, which I was doing at the time, they left it out for basically every other CCR album which I dont really understand. Sure, if you don't want to include it because it involves their best known song fair enough. But it is still packed with absolute BANGERS. Don't look now and Cotton Fields are insanely catchy. Really great album :)

One of THREE masterpieces this band turned out in 1969. Think about that. Anyway, this is often considered to be the band's best, and it's easy to see why, as the material is uniformly excellent, with the covers and originals blending together perfectly to create that special swampy/down home atmosphere that the best Creedence establishes. "Fortunate Son" is the one everybody knows and it's a deserving classic with that iconic riff and John's incredible vocal, but fellow hit "Down on the Corner" (the only song to mention "Willy and the Poor Boys") has a more easygoing charm that I generally find a bit more enjoyable in the context of the album, matching beautifully with "Cottonfields," "Feelin' Blue," "Don't Look Now (It Ain't You or Me)" and the fun instrumental "Poorboy Shuffle." "Effigy" ends the record on something of a dark note and some people feel it doesn't belong as a result, but it's a fine song that shakes you back to reality lest you think the South in 1969 was all roses.

Got this record today on vinyl for only 5 bucks. It was in absolute mint condition and pressed in 1969.
