The problem with early Converge is that they didn’t have Ben Koller. The potential is there but he is the key ingredient that drives everything home.

To put this into more civilized words: Even though I love their whole catalog, their early era, before they became the well-known behemoth of unconventional metalcore, is probably my favorite, and I'm ineffectively looking for similar bands, that hit the right chord *just* like them. Petitioning the Empty Sky is like one of my top four favorite records. It merges the best aspects of fast hardcore, beloved Slayer riffs and screamo vibes. It might not be the peak of their songwriting, but the songs are simply fun, and it's full of youth - which is an important and unique aspect, as bands in their early careers sometimes produce corny albums, sometimes produce gems, from whom they drift away, but nonetheless it's an interesting phenomenon. As I'm still in my early 20's, this era resonates so closely with me, I'm deeply in love with every single of those breakdowns, Slayer riffs and screams and I wish there were more digitalized concerts from that era. Plus, I can say the same about WFCC.

why the chugga hate? relative to the chugg-avalanche of the late 90s, i think Converge used it judiciously and to advantage here. great album: why throw that baby out with the breakdowns?

I really love this album, it might even be my favorite album from them. :) But the track listing is fucked up. The original track listing is 1. The Saddest Day 2. Foresaken 3. Albatross 4. Dead 5. Shingles 6. Buried But Breathing 7. Farewell Note to this City 8. Color Me Blood Red. Farewell Note to this City blows my mind everytime I listen to it. It's probably my favorite song on the album. :)
