Yes, Johnny's cover is good, but The Boss sings it with much more feeling. As far as Cash covers go, it's nowhere near the top.

This is one of my favourite songs ever; up there with Tom Waits' 'Tom Traubert's Blues' or Nick Cave's 'Are You the One That I've Been Waiting For?' These songs conjure up something extra for me, they're not just special songs but they signify, for me, that their writers were at the absolute top of their game when they wrote them. they're mystical, wonderful songs. Mysteriously good.

One of my favorite short stories is by Damon Runyan. It's called "As Far as a Man Possibly Can" and it tells the story of a sheriff who does the exact opposite of the narrator in this song. He is forced to shoot his own son, who is leading a lynch mob. Really sad, and interesting contrast, as was pointed out by a lesson plan I found on the interwebz.

For You is an epic visual storytelling time machine that encourages you to hop on for a ride down thunderous roads to simpler times for a journey through the heart of darkness where the fans feel so close and intimately personal with Springsteen like he's an old college buddy. This book is not just a fine addition to your collection, but is essential for any Springsteen fan. It is a treasure trove of pictures and stories that will not just take you for a ride down memory lane, but will leave you with an impenetrable sense of hope much the same way you feel cruising down the highway and having 'Thunder Road' blast from your speakers with the wind in your hair. When was the last time the written word did that?" www.foryoubruce.com
