Not going to pretend like I love all of Dylan's albums, but this is a GEM. This is an amazing album, I don't care if he was 94 when he recorded it, his voice fits the lyrics perfectly -swoon-

Something of a step down after the incredible "Love and Theft," IMO, but still a solid album. I think this one and Together Through Life were just pretty good, while Tempest was a really bold and powerful album.

Agree. "Tempest" was the worthy follow up to "Love and Theft", while this album was Dylan trying to rewrite blues standards, and "Together Through Life" was him and Robert Hunter trying to write new standards.

Thom Jurek: "But in his carnal and spiritual imagery and rakish honesty, he doesn't give in to either side and walks the hardest path—the "long road down" to his own destiny. This is a storyteller, a pilgrim who's seen it all; he's found it all wanting; he's found some infinitesimal take on the truth that he's holding on to with a vengeance. In the midst of changes that are foreboding, Modern Times is the sound of an ambivalent Psalter coming in from the storm, dirty, bloodied, but laughing at himself—because he knows nobody will believe him anyway."

workingman's blues #2 has the least number of listens on this album? definite testament to the solidity of the album!

I really love this album, it is honestly one of the best he has ever done. It's so conservative and easy, just the kind I think Dylan have been wanting to do since he started out.

Oftmals werden Alben bei mehrmaligen Hören besser - hier rührt sich einfach nix.... Absolutely boring! Alterswerk? Wirkt eher ein wenig senil! Sorry Bob......

One of his best. And thats saying something when you consider this is Dylan we're talking about.

This album seems so effortless. Unbelievable. One of the best albums of the decade so far if not the best!

i thought i only liked his earlier stuff but on the podcast i heard someone say he didn't think of bob dylan as a folk singer, that he's a blues singer now. listening to it through new ears, ears that aren't hoping for 1961 dylan, has completely changed this album for me. i dig it.
