When i first listened a song from this album i couldn't realized the reality. But years later reality slams me... You cannot change what happened...

Yeah, I have to agree with some of the comments below, "Joey" is the only blemish on this fantastic record. It's sooo long and boring, and I can't get on board with a song which tries to drum up sympathy for someone who was such a vile criminal.

Listening through this album and noticing how often the backup singers get the lyrics wrong. So distracting.

Joey is a .... weird song, but I'll grant that in the right mood, at the right time, it *can* sound fabulous. And be whatever as it may, I'm always happy to see folks standing up for maligned Dylan. Props to you, then, Sir Kur.

I love "Abandoned Love", and it's miles better than "Joey". The only reason I can think for it being left off the album is that it has similar melodies to "Black Diamond Bay". But I just listened to DESIRE for the first time in about 10 years, and damn it's beautiful.

Perhaps Dylan's high water mark from a musical perspective. I love the addition of the violin to his backing band. If it weren't for "Joey," which sucks beyond belief in addition to being 11 minutes long, this would be one of his top 3 or 4 albums. As it is it remains in the upper echelon.

It's like Bob spent a month soaking his voice in truth before recording the album.

"Planet Waves", "Blood on the Tracks" & "Desire" is one hell of a trilogy. Beats his 1965/1966 albums imo. You really have to look to find an artist or a band who produced three consecutive albums of such quality. By the way, maybe it's a stupid question, but how were they able to fit in 56 minutes on an LP?

How can it be that I used to think the production on this album sucked? I read recently on a forum or somewhere some guy defying anybody today to record an album that could get the vocals and guitars and drums to sound so phenomenally fucking rich and abrasive and ALIVE. No kidding. I don't think it could be done. I really, really don't think it's possible anymore, not with the way musicians *or* studios approach recording. It's wild!

Yes! Written and recorded during what was apparently a very, very hot summer in New York. You can hear it in the way the band play, but it's not a bad thing at all. Props to Dylan for harnessing the meteorological mood!

This album has a really strange and interesting atmosphere to it, that is hard to describe. Maybe something like "sultry" is appropriate. I love it!

And Joey's good, I do like the song, but if, say, Abandoned Love and Golden Loom had made the tracklist in its place, this would be a no-holds-barred masterpiece album!

Hurricane and Joey are actually my two least favorite tracks on here (Hurricane because of the performance, not the song quality itself; it's a marvel on the Rolling Thunder Revue for sure, and a very well-written song) but Black Diamond Bay is one of my all-time Bob favorites.

Only loving Hurricane, Isis and Sara right now. The rest ... ehh, I'm sure it'll eventually grow on me.
