Love the melancholia and joy (simultaneously, of course) of this number. There's not much better than being young and going out and the way that manages to encapsulate everything about girls, football, TV, and emotional states. I've always found pubs and heading out to be so romantic – such an embodiment of hedonism and camaraderie, where anything can happen, and where the most intense parts of humanity come out to shine (or look like shit). Just a nice Scottish song about the dull and grey and hope and happiness of this lifestyle.

reminds me of that time I was down The Arches on eccies, made a bunch of new pals I'd never see again and gurned a lot, then stayed in my room the next day, coming down and hating my existence.

I love this, I also love the remix, both capture totally different moods superbly

I can totally recommend Bill Wells & Aidan Moffat's new album (Everything's Getting Older), there is a track called The Greatest Story Ever Told which is more Scottish, more sardonic, more miserablist and yet uplifting than the masterpiece you are currently listening to

I remember hearing Arab Strap back when Lamacq was doing the Evening Session, so unique.

i hate discovering a band long after they've split. This is easily one of the best songs I've ever heard, it's a sardonic Scottish 'Institutionalized' for the the permanently miserable. Utter genius
