Things are good. It's been a long time since I used this socially. Figured I'd get back into it!

i'm sorry to hear that. :( i'm aware that it must have both psychological and social consequences, even to those who aren't directly involved... that's why i understand you completely, on how music enables one of the fastest and most effective ways to escape reality. sometimes that escape is a necessity, i think... to stay sane and keep a perspective.

There are a lot of short hobbit types. I think that comes from their Spanish Celt ancestry. Haha. Of course I don't mind. The more the merrier and all that.

That is a good point. Though I do feel comfortable in Liverpool as long as it's day time. I moved to live with my girlfriend and there's something about the area in which we live, it just makes me feel uncomfortable. I guess that's the thing about the French, they move all the time. People are always in and out of Paris. I'm not sure what it is, a whim? Or maybe they always need to be somewhere new to feel comfortable. The English aren't like that, and the Welsh are even less like that. The English move until they find a place they can spend the rest of their lives in. Welsh families always live close together - next door, there's two parents with their two adult children and one grandchild. They also have three dogs, four cats and a chicken coop.

Wars are the worst - I'm tired of all these pointless issues people are raising, things that shouldn't even be issues like same-sex marriage or the prohibition of drugs. People should stop defining themselves and others based on things like sexuality. People are people, all those other things are superficialities. Ah, here people smile at one another if they happen to catch each other's gaze by mistake, but that is only out of politeness and anxiety. I believe it was, in the past, dangerous to betray any emotion in Russia and now that's just become the status quo. I think here, it's the oppressive atmosphere and the social awkwardness. From what I've experienced, they're more relaxed on the continent, and I feel more relaxed too - like in Paris for example. My girlfriend lives here, she moved for university, and her daughter is very well settled at school. I don't think we'll be able to move for another few years. Even then, we'll probably end up leaving Britain altogether!

Ah, there's a chance my great uncle may have died there. No one knows what happened, he just didn't come back. I've heard about that kind of atmosphere before, that in the cities, the Russian people tend not to look at each other and in some places, there is still a rather gloomy atmosphere. I don't know how true that is, I've never been. Haha. I love moody skies like that. That's a nice view. I bet it looks wonderful in Summer too. I miss Liverpool. We have a bay here in Cardiff but it's shite. I miss the Albert Dock: http://www.redspottedhanky.com/images/30/original/albert-dock_liverpool_22189189.jpg

When I'm tired, all of my thoughts flow out into conversation unchecked. Haha. I know what you mean there, some of the older symbols I've seen look like some kind of secret code or an alien language. Letters like: Ѭ Ѧ - 'tis a cool alphabet though. So what do you think about the place you live in? I find Britain to be very oppressive, the atmosphere of the place, it's heavy. I originally came from Liverpool and it's not so bad there (depending on where you are), but I moved to Cardiff and it's crushing me!

This might sound like a boring question, but I'm curious. What alphabet do you prefer? Latin or Cyrillic? I've noticed I've been saying a lot recently. I've been very tired and sometimes that makes me talk a lot.

You're very welcome. I haven't noticed any mistakes at all. Your English is better than most native speakers'. The English tend to be quite lazy when it comes to their use of language and there have been times when I've been reproached for having an extended vocabulary (as if that's a bad thing, as if that makes me some kind of elitist for choosing which ever word describes the situation best). I often find that people like me are treated like flotsam. We don't really fit - I have this disease; I recount everything - even now, and it makes me feel so boring. Hahaha. In person it's different though. My vocabulary seems more limited in every day speech and not to mention the Liverpool accent (which is heavily influenced by the Irish accent), my speech gets lazy too. It's quite funny, really.

Your English is fantastic - you have a great vocabulary. I think I find it so depressing because England is depressing, the English are. That's a very interesting way at looking at the word. And there's that colloquial 'you' that was sometimes use which means either no one in particular or the whole human race. Like a unifying experience which is just a part of the human condition. Phrases like "You wake up in the morning."

Yes, definitely! And I can understand that - it must be tiring after a while. I see English as a really miserable, negative language. There are hundreds of words to describe things negatively and so few words for positive description. It's such a plain, boring old language too - it has no frivolity to it, now real character. It's spineless. Much like the English themselves! I'd prefer to live on the continent! :P I was getting into a Dostoevsky book before I left home, but then I moved and left it in my parent's house. I moved to Wales. Right now I'm reading "Nausea" by Jean-Paul Sartre, and loving it. I've hit the pinnacle of my love for it and I understand everything he has tried to explain and can relate. I love the feeling of affinity you have with a good book by a great author.

I could imagine a film adaptation of Kerouac to be really awful. I love reading too! It seems to me, the more I read, the more satisfying it gets with each book, with each page.

I'd definitely recommend it - "On the Road" is a book everyone seems to have read at some point in their lives, and Allen Ginsberg is a wonderful poet. William S. Burroughs is...interesting, Bukowski is an intriguing character, a good one for Tom Waits fans. Haha.

Yeah, the'yre the most original band of their time, and Mark's vocals are amazing - and the poetry too! I'm a big fan of the Beat Generation, so I fell in love with it all right away! I do have a German name, ja. It comes from my father's father. He was from Torgau, captured in the war and sent to Liverpool where he stayed and where I grew up!

:)) well, i actually don't know what to say... it was really something else, it may still take me some time to contemplate my impressions after the show, but it may easily be one of the best concerts i've ever been to. i've spent this whole morning trying to organize my trip to graz, he's performing there today, and it's very close to zagreb, but it was so last minute that i didn't manage to get there on time. :/ mark was brilliant on stage, wordless, static and concentrated only on his music. i guess he was completely in his own world. after the show, when he was meeting fans and signing merchandise, he was a whole another person, open, patient and friendly... i even got a chance to congratulate him on his birthday and talk a few words with him. :)) you were right, it's definitely a concert to remember (and to repeat as soon as possible). :)

yeah, i think they're very cinematic. and ambiental :) i found them when i first listened to iron & wine and their album 'in the reins', that was when i got into them. i think lanegan's tour mostly covers 'blues funeral', but i've heard he sings a lot of old stuff too. it's just that at the moment, he has a different sound, not so much acoustic anymore, so that old songs could be performed in completely another way, which i think is great. i liked this change and the new electronic production of the latest album, for me it functions great in contrast to his voice. :)

to me, 'the mirror' is an absolute favorite. :) too bad for the book, but i'll have it on my mind if it gets translated. i'm glad about that photo of nick, it's one of my favorites, but it's really hard to choose as there is so few and they're all great, thanks to keith morris. this concert season in zagreb is pretty great, i tried to attend all i can... and i'm glad to hear that calexico are good live, i did like the new album, but it's not among my favorites, though 'para' is wonderful. anyway, i'm mostly looking forward to hear mark lanegan live :)

...they are listed in this order: citizen kane, a clockwork orange, un chien andaulou, the seventh seal, one flew over the cuckoo's nest, ladri di biciclette, 400 blows, metropolis, a bout de souffle, cabinet das dr. caligari, rashomon, himmel uber berlin, the elephant man. as this was a rather old choice, now it would be filled and slightly changed, and there would be much more of rohmer, bergman and andrei tarkovsky (another russian name ;)).

thanks a lot for your detailed response. :) i am definitely intrigued by the author of the book, so i'll try to somehow get hold of the one you mentioned. the quote really fits perfectly, and it's appliable to nick in every way. oh, when you mention that you owe a lot to that friend who introduced you to nick's music, i really understand, to me it felt like discovering something which is so close to me that i can find parts of myself in the words, music, melodies, yet at the same time, so distant, otherworldly and special. :) oh, about this old movies list, well, when you put it like that, i guess i do spend quite some (maybe even excessive) time watching movies, especially at times when i should be working. these are mostly classics, but from my side all reviewed many times...
