You know, I shared "Golden Hours" with my Chinese students last week. I first had to have them read through the lyrics, line by line, and then explain the meaning of "reading between the lines" and what it means to fear your brains are "old and scrambled." We discussed what the song is about: aging, doubt, and wasted hours spent remembering how great you once were. When finally listening to the song, I asked them what makes the song different from other songs they've heard, on the radio. They said it was more boring than those songs, and then one of the students snuck onto the computer and turned on Gangnam Style. ...that student is also the only student to fail the course this year. Lets just call that an interesting coincidence and leave it at that.
