I liked almost every track equally (hence my overwhelming AOTY hype over this album lol), but for highlights I would name マジックミラー, 超新世代カステラスタンダードMAGICマジKISS, SHINPIN, 無修正ロマンティック ~延長戦~ (biggest fav) and ■ックミー、■ックミー. As much as I'd dig Sennou, I personally felt this effort as the one where she finally discovered her own "major identity" (considering that acoustic efforts of hers are normally attributed to her indie past).

Yeah, quite a few people were present at both shows, which is just a little bit excessive to me, but good for them for having such diehard fans. They seemed incredibly humbled and appreciative of all the support and success, which makes them even more likeable. Oh wow, wasn't expecting that, haha. Well I'm free after 5, so if you're still around and willing, we can definitely meet up. Just shoot me a text and we'll sort out the details then!

Oh yeah, I forgot you guys get an entire week off. Hopefully you can relax and not think about work for a bit. I've been okay for the most part. I'm over a month into the new job, so that's kinda why I haven't been around or writing much lately. And I'd love to tell you more about everything and also catch up with you in general. Too bad I don't think we'll get a chance to see each other soon, since a real conversation might be easier than shoutbox volleyball. We should set up a date/time to skype or chat, if that's something you'd be interested in or have time for. If so, just feel free to let me know whenever since you've got all my contact info anyway.

Ah, that's a bummer you feel so disappointed, but I understand why. It's kinda an inoffensive album that isn't bad enough to stir up any strong feelings, but not great enough so it just fades away quietly. I have no problems listening to the entire record, but it's more just background noise at times. I'm going to have to add "ヴァージン・スーサイド" as another favorite track, though. And RTJ really do put on a super fun show. It was a packed house of hardcore, hyped fans who knew all the lyrics, and everyone going craaazy. They played through most of RTJ2 and a little over half of the first album. It was nice seeing how well Killer Mike and El-P play off each other's energy and charisma, and they're a very compatible duo. There was a point where they shared a hug and said they loved each other, and it was so heartwarmingly genuine and precious :3

Great to hear--I'm even more excited for tomorrow's show then! RTJ2 is easily one of my top favorite albums of the year. It's exceptional on all fronts, lyrically and sonically. I was hugely into the debut, and this new one is just as good, if not better. One noticeable difference is the wider range of subject matters; it can be serious to downright hilarious, which is a nice range to occupy. Really nothing but good things to say here. The only negative point isn't even a knock on the record, but more of a personal preference: Zack de la Rocha has an annoying voice (but tolerable since it's just one track). What did you think of it?

While I think the new きのこ帝国 album is pretty good, I'm not crazy about it. I was hoping for more shoegaze and fuzz, in the same vein as last year's phenomenal EP. They were fairly adept at that, so I don't get why they'd want to start making vanilla J-rock like every other band. It's not to say that those songs are bad, but I've listened to the album a handful of times already, yet I still cannot remember anything except for my favorites ("クロノスタシス" and "You outside my window"). If they made an EP with the first 4 songs and maybe "疾走", then that would've been preferable. Curious to hear your thoughts since I know you also love their previous output!

a site where you can stream albums. It's mostly Chinese music and mainstream international--kinda like wikipedia but with that added function. I'm very happy to hear you've been reading along (still can't believe anyone would want to do that, haha), so thanks :33 Yeah, I wish you could've been there to see toe--you would have loved it! I remember tickets sold out pretty quickly last time they were in Chicago.

It's nice! Even though Tennis always tries something a bit new, I find all their releases pleasant and enjoyable. Although this didn't hit me as hard as the EP, I love the single and two other tracks I've been binging on. Downloading music is a lot more difficult because of the somewhat slow internet speed (a nationwide problem--not just mine), and because a lot of popular uploading sites are blocked. And the ones that do work require captcha verification, which never loads the first time. I refresh the page like 10 times, and MAYBE by some miracle it works. I've literally spent days attempting to get a particular album, haha. Sometimes it can take hours to dl, so you gotta pray your connection doesn't get lost. While not impossible, it requires more patience and time than usual. And I have become more selective because if it takes so much effort, it better be the goddamn greatest thing I've ever heard. But if you don't want to have your own copy and also happen to love Top 40, there's

Nice, if its the one I think it is, I've only ever heard it as a shitty webstream. Where did you find it if you don't mind me asking? Aslo, Lai Lai Lai Team have a new mini album out at the end of the month.

Seiko Oomori is doing vocals on a cover/massacre of Perfume's Chocolate Disco for the Chaotic Vibes Orchestra album. How does that make you feel?

Yep, a couple songs have definitely grown on me. Hmm, I actually haven't heard anything I love yet--in terms of complete albums anyway. I've mostly been sticking to older stuff, since I like to use this lull as a nice break from trying to keep up with new releases. I do think that you might enjoy some tracks off the new Warpaint, though. How's 2014 sounding for you so far? And by the way, I'm going to follow your tumblr since that guy down there says it's good, haha.

I'm revisiting the tricot album, and it really does reveal itself with each listen. I can hear each song as a separate entity, rather than one continuous, same-sounding mass. I know I'm just saying things that you already know, but you can have my unsolicited affirmation anyway. :D

Pfft, lyric change? You're telling me you don't want a song about gravy on their next album?! That Girls' Generation was better than I had expected. Do the Catwalk is definitely a standout for me, too. Flyers is an interesting track because it sounds so American! Sounds exactly like something an adolescent Disney star would sing. Thanks for letting me know about the きのこ帝国 EP! It's so good; I can't stop listening to it. I like パラノイドパレード and FLOWER GIRL is lovely, especially that instrumental half! Just picked up "Eureka" because I want to hear more from them. I was actually reminded of this particular My Dead Girlfriend track I like, due to the shoegaze-y rock vibe--except that track is a lot more fuzzed out and vocals aren't as pretty.

I may not have retained a damn thing from the little Japanese I took in high school, but I'm glad I can at least read and understand that track title. So fair enough, you have a point there, haha. I'm surprised your feelings for that album are still so strong, but I love that. Makes me happy for some reason. By the way, I hope you've heard their Thanksgiving song for Bob's Burgers. I think it's great they do stuff like this. And man, looks like I gotta check out that new Girls' Generation since you and Josh seem to be diggin' it so much!

Yea I'm not a huge fan of TTNG or most emo bands from that whole scene either. And yeah I'm really digging the new SNSD album... I think I like every song right now aside from maybe the first and last track. Um I applied to a bunch in the midwest region including the three in Illinois (UIC, Southern, and Midwestern). I did a couple on the east and west coast and then one in Texas but I'm not really expecting to get in to those schools ha. And thanks!

Glad to hear you like it! And I know what you mean, I feel the same way sometimes. Just wanted to say that the tricot album is pretty fun, though you're right, it's a little same-y right now. And what's up with putting the best track last! This just reinforces my belief that you gotta listen to albums to completion (at least once). Anyway, I'm also excited to see your list, so be sure to let me know when it's up!

I highly recommend Jessy Lanza’s “Pull My Hair Back”, which rides that experimental R&B wave that’s so popular this year. It’s co-produced by the guy from Junior Boys, so it’s got touches of electro pop flair. However, it’s all very restrained and there’s a keen sense of space. Lanza’s vocals add to the sensuality, which is sophisticated and refined. I also like Daughter’s “If You Leave”, which is a subdued break-up album merging pop and “indie rock”. It’s got some lovely guitar work set against the lead singer’s forlorn crooning, and creates a painfully beautiful atmosphere where you’re captivated by her sadness. It’s chilling and intimate, and I find it quite enchanting, too. Finally, as far as electronic music goes, I’ll throw in “Elements of Light”, from Pantha du Prince & The Bell Laboratory. It incorporates the bell carillon, which is comprised of 50 bronze bells, which is unique to me. It’s ambitious, playful, pretty, and an absolute joy to listen to.

Thank you, I appreciate your thoughtful response. I just picked up the tricot album to start with, and am eager to give it a listen. I’ll definitely check out the rest as well. In regards to your question about The National’s album, I’m afraid to say that it’s a bit unappealing to me now. I played it to death when it was released, and now I’m reluctant to hear any more. It’s more a matter of being sick of it, so I’m giving it time to rest. I still think it’s a quality record, though; it’s in my top ten if that’s indicative of anything. I’ve started to look back to get an idea of my year-end list, and I’m certain you’ve listened to most of my favorites. So I’ll just mention a couple that I don’t think you’ve heard yet, but surmise that you may enjoy.

That EP is so good, it's hard to pick a favorite. Glad to see you also love "Dimming Light" :D By the way, may I ask what your favorite Japanese releases have been this year? Doesn't necessarily have to be pop--just anything you particularly enjoyed. I don't keep up with this at all, so you're definitely the man to turn to.
