I just started to getting to know their music. I've known like forever that the band exists because of that one Camel cover on the desert, as a kid I thought it was cool and always thought of them as that cigarette band :D I've never smoked, btw.

Not big at all, honestly and respectfully. I like post-punk more, especially the arty side. Bands that just thrash it out are fine by me but not something I go to.

Camel. Stick mostly to the 70’s records. Mike Oldfield. Same but some of his best records were made up to 1984. Tangerine Dream, late 70’s and the soundtracks.

I have TD's Phaedra rated as a 3.5, but it's been forever and my taste has changed...will try some of their others soon. Camel I've heard of but never played. Excellent suggestions, thank you.

Hello Brian, nice library you have here, love your tops, Ordinary World, Life on Mars?, Lazarus, When the Sun Hits - a handful of treasures! 2006, gosh this was a long time ago, isn't it?

Yeah I didn’t start in earnest scrobbling here until a few years after when I had enough of a library to randomize my days with. Thank you, I appreciate any kudos from other veterans of this place as well as the newer members too.

It’s a modern day prog/Canterbury album. I also recommend this album by Wobbler: https://music.apple.com/us/album/from-silence-to-somewhere/1624636636

I like the classic albums, and a few things from the 80’s and 90’s. “Scandinavia”, from the Beautiful Vision is maybe my favorite musical piece of his. It’s wholly instrumental but still his, showcasing some expressive piano playing. Not necessarily Bill Evans but it has character. I can’t be bothered with anything he does now.

Oh! Thanks for the response. Btw, do you know how to listen to the album Tupelo Honey? I can’t find it on Spotify, Apple Music or YouTube

Oh, that's nice. I'm getting into him. What would you recommend? You seem to have a varied taste too. It's a goal to get definitely into classical for me next year. I like Chopin, and Liszt is from the same movement and relatively similar time period, so. I am very much into medieval and baroque stuff, it's Romanticism I'm currently trying more in depth. Nice proggy taste, too. Love Yes'' classical guitar influences.

The Moldau by Czech composer Bedrich Smetana is a piece that holds a lot of sentimental value for me.

no, it's fine, I have aspergers too, so I get it, I do that too sometimes. I like Kanye's music even though I don't agree with what he says/his personality, so I get the reservations.

I listened to my first rap album on here ever in 2022, the one by The Weeknd with Jim Carrey as the DJ. Hip-hop has never really gauged my interest otherwise, but that’s starting to change a little as I’m finding stuff on Apple Music more directly adjacent to it that fits my tastes, mainly from an instrumental point of view and less from the actual rhyming aspect which never appealed much to me but I am learning to let go of the old restrictive habits.

Yeah — hip hop was an acquired taste for me and I have to be in the right mood for it, for example I listen to rap allot while running. If you want to get into hip hop The Low End Theory by A Tribe Called Quest, Illmatic by Nas, Madvillainy by the late great MF DOOM, & Paul’s Boutique by the Beastie Boys are classics that still hold up today. Nujabes is a Japanese producer who is the GOAT (greatest of all time) of instrumental hip hop, J Dilla’s Donuts, Shades of Blue by Madlib and Cosmogramma by Flying Lotus are good places to start. I would also say old Kanye before he went off the rails mentally, I was a fan, not so much his newer stuff.

John McLaughlin you are probably familiar with already through his work with Miles in the fusion era. His band the Mahavishnu Orchestra has maybe some of the most fluid lyrical guitar solos I have ever listened to. He’s still playing live and making records, fierce as ever when he plays even at 80. This is a very loaded question otherwise. Pink Floyd, early Allman Brothers Band and basically any of King Crimson’s albums up until the 90’s are really the top of the mountain for me as far as rock music that reaches beyond the basic building blocks of the form into something approaching art.

When I was 13, I discovered music in a way that would eventually help shape my view of the world, and my place in it. It took me in and has never let me go. It's been both an escape from the inequities of my own journey, but it's been at times a harsh reminder of what's out there. I welcome it because art is best enjoyed when it mirrors life. Just as good for me, is when it reflects one's unique experience of the world. It brings you within someone else's point of view, and if it's good enough it doesn't matter if you agree or disagree with it. All that matters is if it moves you. I absolutely love this site (warts and all). I have discovered quite a lot of music that has moved me almost as much as it did the first time. It is a better expression of my love of music than anything I could ever write myself.

I really liked your "about me" section, it's really good to "meet" people who value music as much as you do.
