Haha, nevermind. Yes Whirr are excellent. I'm not sure I'm going to go to their show though for just an opener slot. I'm not interested in the other bands on the bill.

hey! can't believe it's this weekend already. i will be guy who is hanging out near the front during El-P, then making a dash for right by the stage in wait of Autolux...and staying there for Shellac. I may not be able to handle the Autolux show on the 14th so will probably wait to see them in Brooklyn on 15th. Also, did you notice, Yura Yura Teikoku will play ny the following Friday, 18th?!? it's probably way too long to stay in ny, though. What an insane week of music. Have a good flight!

Personally, I started to lose interest in that kind of extreme noise music. Recordings did not seem so different to me from one artist to another, and aside from live performance, recordings could not hold my interest for so long. So I became more interested in more rock-based psychedelic music with long noise or drone parts, but balanced with melodies…along the way, bands like Deerhunter, Yuratei have fit perfectly.

When I lived in Japan, some independent music scenes were starting to discover and get excited about this Japanese noise scene. Maybe I should say ‘a few’ instead of ‘some.’ I found myself drawn to this scene; there seemed to be something very pure and completely free from commercial influences about it, so soon after arriving, I found places like Koenji and tried to catch shows by artists like Merzbow, Incapacitants, Masonna, Haino Keiji (who I guess is more like avante garde). So, it’s interesting to me to get perspective from someone who is involved in Tokyo underground music scene now, these many years later. I wonder if any of those names are familiar at all, or doing anything connected to newer artists?

hello livingtobefree! Sorry for looong silence; my work got very busy, hard to concentrate on other stuff, now in middle of nice long break. How was Deerhunter in Japan? I’ve been enjoying their new ep Rainwater Cassette Exchange a lot. Atpny is looking more interesting all the time. Everyone playing on Sunday, including Boredoms and Boris(!!) will do a special set. Boris will play one of their older albums, and it’s one really good slow building song. Also saw the movie Ai no Mukidashi (Love Exposure), it only used a few Yuratei songs, but used them very well, and it was really interesting and funny 4 hour (!!!) movie. It got into some pretty interesting themes of religion and cults. I wonder how Japanese audiences would react? Will try to answer some older stuff in another ‘shout.’

not so busy i don't have time to be messing around on the internet. Yes, that's Sonny Sion. I learned about his new movie because it will be shown at Asian Film Festival that is held every summer in NY. He will be at US premiere of movie --- 4 hour long movie -- and wil 'bless the audience' before it begins. maybe just a little crazy...i saw preview on youtube and found out YuraTei'smusic will be used -- maybe that's best aspect of watching this movie for me. He's made a few movies, some i think are not so great, others very interesting. Jisatsu Circle is, i think, his signature film. It is really controversial movie by any culture's standards. i don't think track i played was able to be scrobbled, but it's very dark orchestral sounding piece. I have no idea who is responsible for it. The soundtrack is pretty important aspect of the movie, and is all over the map with different types of music. enjoy, if you get chance to watch or listen

Hello.. Just to let you know that the new programme for 'Made in Europe' in Italia, is now up on www.vivaossola.org What I'm really after, is perhaps you could have a listen to some of the bands and let me know... who you think you would come and see if you had to see one..!!..... Lots of vids on there too.. Just a little experiment to get some pre-indications of our own judgments really... Would really appreciate it... Thanks x (Thats the 2009/10 programme of course! not the one just finishing!)
