I've stagnated for the past few years (moving out/uni/no piano etc) but over the past month and a bit learned Frank Bridges "The Dew Fairy", Scriabin's prelude op 16 no 1 and Ravel's Menuet sur le nom de Haydn. Next up I hope to give a go at Scriabin's op 32 no 1 poeme. Thanks for all the recommendations. I know exactly what to listen to over the next few days now. Shame about Jarrett's stuff not being on Spotify. I always hear mention of the Koln Concert but have yet to actually give it a listen.

I've played piano from a young age and right around the time I started playing Chopin nocturnes I realised how much I enjoyed the music itself. My parents already played all sorts of music so I knew of Chopin among others. From there I started playing Debussy and from that point on I started just listening more and more to other composers. I'd listened to metal as an early teen and around the age of 15 I shifted towards more electronic music such as Noisia, Black Sun Empire, The Upbeats and Spor. Really quite similar to metal except there's no singing. I know exactly what you mean, though. Most -- if not all -- people I know who don't play an instrument or have any sort of exposure to classical seem to get into it through exploring metal.

Thanks for the names. I just went to check out the Chick Corea Trio on spotify but sadly that albums all unavailable save for "work". I have to admit I'm immediately impressed by it. I really want to explore everything else more. Do you also know any really good jazz funk like Hiromi's "time out" or John Scofield's "sticks and stones"? I've stumbled upon Soulive, Ulu, and Lettuce but from what I've heard they don't QUITE match up to what those first two offer. I've been going to a jazz bar nearby quite a lot recently and they have some insane improv sessions with this one electric guitarist who just shreds. Just can't seem to find anything similar.

In all honesty I'm not too sure what my favourites are just yet. I used to listen to metal and dnb but went to exclusively classical for the past 2 years. I've been listening to a range of things lately and enjoying quite a bit but to relaly know what my favourites are I'll have to see how much I still listen to in a month or two, if that makes sense. Here's a few names anyway: Noisia, Spor, Aphex Twin, RHCP, The Reign Of Kindo, Radiohead, dredg, Washed Out, The Avalanches, Hiromi, John Scofield, Joey Alexander, Tame Impala, Coltrane, Mingus, Herbie Hancock, Wynton Marsalis, Real Estate.. Not sure how many of those will stick. I've really enjoyed listening to them recently.

Yeah, good Ideas :) I'm familiar with Nils Frahm , I listened to Felt about 2 years ago. (I think I should listen again:) ) ... you know, these days of mine are some the hardest days in my life :) actually I trying to decrease the amount of the time I spend on music ! ... I'm 18, high school's final grade ... you know, in Iran everything's some kinda different :)) We choose our majors in first grade of high school & in the final year, we take an university entry exam which is consisted of all subjects we studied on our last four years of high school . yeah, it's complicated :)) so then, I should study hard this year, even all of the summer...

Appreciate that :)) there's always good works on ECM ... seems that you enjoyed "Jack DeJohnette - In Movement" ... I haven't listened to any of Dejohnette's albums as a leader bofere this , but seems this work was quiet new in style and setup .... what's your review on it ?

Well, some of the recently released stuff including "Avishai Cohen - Into The Silence" , "Anat Fort Trio & Gianluigi Trovesi - Birdwatching" are pretty innovative & fresh jazz works and I really enjoyed 'em ... Also there's recently released album by two Iranians on ECM : "Golfam Khayam & Mona Matbou Riahi - Narrante". It's a Modern duet for Classical Guitar and Clarinet with a new composition style and a touch of Iranian Traditional.

And of course I could recommend one the foremost FRESH and even weird(!) works released on ECM : "Mette Henriette's Double Album". This Norwegian, 27 year old musician, makes you revise whatever you've believed as music before! it's a pretty innovative & futuristic work & it's like a story ....

Edit sheet music using paint, Audacity to record (depending on source) and sony vegas for video editing (though windows movie maker works fine, which is what Olla-vogala uses). Link me to your channel if you start uploading. I'd love to see what you upload and perhaps discover some new music!

They are certainly an impressive set. Spotify does an excellent job in terms of classical music. Speaking of Prokofiev mixed with Ravel, have you heard Pierre-Octave Ferrouds works? Not much on Spotify but I uploaded a few videos on youtube. One commentor pointed out that his work Types sounds like if Prokofiev joined Les Six! There are certainly other elements of Ravel in there at points, such as the prelude and forlane.

Well, he might be my new art of this month. Forgive me that I didn't notice him before, hah. As for M83, I have to say the new release has not yet grown on me. How's the music atmosphere in your city?
