Sorry for being out of the game for so long, I'm a month behind, I'll be catching up pretty soon. I've been going through some crazy things personally. The chart will not be featured at the old website address (I'm letting it expire) but the chart will be at the new website (the link is at the top of my lastfm profile). I'll keep you posted when the new charts will be up. Any new suggestions?

Hey, I've been having internet issues the last few weeks, but I'm planning to get caught up on the chart in the next week or so. The new Van Halen album is amazing, beyond my wildest expectations. Definitely up there with their original self-titled album and 1984! Can't wait to hear your thoughts on the album!

So, finally my chart matches the actual week it is. Got a new chart up with the new Van Halen song. I'm happy to get new Diamond Dave music this year. I like Third Eye Blind...I underrated 3EB back in the day, but they were really one of the best bands of the late '90s. Not really a Rihanna fan myself...don't really know why, just doesn't appeal to me (never charted a song of hers despite her popularity). As I'm growing older, I appreciate different eras of music for what they bring to the table. I'll always rank '80s as my top decade, but I like '60s music all the way to today, and each era had its own unique sound. Even if what's on top of the charts doesn't get it right, doesn't mean good music didn't exist from that time. I think we're living in a good age where we can at least access all the music across the globe and not be dependent on radio stations or MTV to find good music. I can't wait to hear the VH album. Devo had the comeback in 2010, Cars in 2011, and now VH in 2012!

New chart is up. I made it to over 1,000 songs charted this year. I'm going to try to keep songs on the chart longer next year, LOL! Lots of good rock out right now!

Sorry I've been out for so long. The chart is back! And I got a lot of the song suggestions you left me on the chart now. Really great songs you gave me, thanks! I'm really excited to get back to the chart!

What can I say, man? Life has got busy in the last few months! I probably won't be coming back to the chart until the end of October. Good thing I was so far ahead on the dates! I won't ever stop the chart if I can help it. I've already invested almost 13 years into it. Still listening to music, but I haven't really checked out the most recent music. Take care and have a great month!

My chart is back! I don't know why it took so long, but it ended up being a 4-week hiatus. I think this chart breaks the record for most debuts, so there's lot of songs to check out, including some of the ones you already suggested.

Hey man, I've been a little burned out on my chart, and sorry for not responding as fast as I usually do. I'm not sure when I'll upload the next chart, but I'm sure I'll catch up in the next few weeks. I've been listening to old favorites in the meantime. '80s rock never lets me down, never. Yeah, those Blood on the Dance Floor titles are ridiculous. I like the new one because it has a good new wave vibe. "Howlin' For You" is great ... it's up for the video music awards so let's hope it wins. I haven't heard those new ones you've suggested in the past few weeks, but I'll get to them before I work on the next chart. If you have more, post them because I'll probably refresh the chart with a lot of debuts the next time out. And yeah, still waiting on Van Halen. They could've had a long career of hits like Aerosmith or the Rolling Stones, but they blew it with so many lineup changes. I like both the Diamond Dave and Hagar eras, and they haven't done anything big since 1992. Frustrating!

I've been taking a break from a chart but I posted a new one today. I actually compiled the current one a couple weeks ago, so some new songs won't be on it yet. I found a lot of new groups over the weekend and they may be showing up on the chart soon. Thanks for the recommendations. Friendly Fires, Blue Cassette is great, I agree.

I agree with your viewpoint on 2011 so far. Returning artists have been doing well, but there hasn't been many new bands to get into. I am excited to hear what Red Hot Chili Peppers is going to come up with. They usually take a long time between albums, but they deliver when they do. And the 3 Doors Down album coming out in a few weeks. Even if 2011 isn't up to par, there's so much music from the past that delivers, so there's never a lack of good music to listen to.

Busy times this week. Thanks for the new songs! So we're halfway through the year. You like 2011 music so far? I have, but there seems to be something missing that would make this year great! I can't put my finger on what's missing from this year, but could you?

With kind respect to Move Like This, Simple Plan's Get Your Heart On! has got to be up there for album of the year. Amazing album, from start to finish. New Loverboy (and Journey), this year keeps on getting better. And to think we might be getting Van Halen at the end of the year, wow! Got a new chart with a new number one. For some reason, planes have been the lyrical theme the last month of charts.

I'd like to think the '80s are alive and well every week on my chart. It's always a major influence. Coldplay doesn't usually come out of the gate on my chart. I usually let their songs debut low, grow and gain momentum as I listen to it more. I do like "Every Teardrop" and how it integrates the bagpipes-like sound (an uncommon instrument in hit songs). I wouldn't count it out for a high chart run. My favorite Coldplay single so far is "Violet Hill," and "Speed of Sound," and "Talk" are great as well. When "Yellow" came out I wasn't sold on them, but I've learned to appreciate that song more as I listened to more of Coldplay's work through the years. They're a great chill-out band overall. Only one complaint on the Cars new album for me—only 10 songs, LOL. Just kidding! The Cars made sure to come out with all killer, no filler material. Have you seen Katy Perry's "Last Friday Night" video yet? Lots of 80s cameos, one which rivals Michael Bolton in "Jack Sparrow."

Michael Bolton has become hip again! Didn't see that one coming! I like Jack Sparrow and I like that Bolton doesn't take himself too seriously. He has one of the great voices of our time, but I never really got captivated with all his slow ballads in the 90s. My favorite work from Bolton is his 1983 album. Have you heard it? Proves he could have made his mark in hard rock.

The retro chart concept is to place myself back in time as if I were making a chart during that week. So, I started it on my actual birthday. And a great majority of the songs on that first chart had songs that showed up on the Billboard and UK charts of that same week. The best way to explain it is: just imagine we're in October 1982 right now. What songs will be hot on the radio and MTV? When songs are mentioned in the Billboard magazine as new chart adds will be the time I'll be debuting them on my retro chart. The chart I posted is not a best-of 1982 or anything like that. I could've started earlier in the '80s decade, but I think the date my life started is a good place to begin. If this stays around, I hope to complete week-by-week charts all the way to 1999. I will go in order, I don't plan to jump around years. Make sense? Don't worry, I won't miss anything and I'll try to explore deeper than what appeared on the main charts: a celebration of the popular and underground.

I went ahead and uploaded the first retro chart. So many great songs! It's going to be fun to rank the classics as if I were doing the chart in the '80s.

I don't think power pop ever died out, and it's alive and well in 2011. I live having a reaction to the charts I post. I'm thinking of starting a retro chart project — charting '80s and '90s songs corresponding to when they were popular. I would start in 1982 (year I was born) and go all the way to 1999 (my first Goo chart). It would take some time to go through all the dates. Your thoughts?

I think that the reason why songs are moving fast on my chart is more time on my hands to listen to music. I've noticed that when I've been busier, there's been a lot less chart movement and an average of 5 debuts a week. Next week will be light on the debuts, gotta give time for the new songs to gel on the chart. You've noticed Sumo Cyco moving up the chart? I only found the band because it's lead singer Skye Sweetnam's new project. I don't think I've ever seen a transformation from pop princess to a legitimate metal frontgirl but Skye pulled it off. Plus, she's really hot in the new video.

Interesting you mention Beyond Radio. My chart is linked on the site somewhere. I used the website as a source back in the day but I use it less now. My sources nowadays include: hunting for follow-ups for established artists, YouTube discoveries (record company channels and related videos), release schedules, some music blogs, and sometimes the U.S., U.K., and Australia charts to cover anything I missed.

There's a method to my chart madness. I'm attempting to have 1,000 songs peak in 2011. About 700 songs peaked in 2010, before that a few years had 500 plus. I'm on pace, but barely. I hear a lot of good music lately, both mainstream and underground, and I want to give chart love to all of it. I may have short chart runs but I don't drop songs unless I'm satisfied with their peaks. I'm sure my chart will revert to a more comfortable place, but I have more free time on my hands which in turns in spent to checking more music out. I've considered going to a 200-position chart (like I did in 2003), but I like to keep the continuity of 100 songs/week, even though there's enough songs to fill out a 200 version. 100 is always the perfect number for me, as it matches Billboard and other charts out there. Believe me, I feel the here-and-gone pace of my chart.

Today, I was in a country/southern rock mood. I even listened to Bon Jovi's recent country album. I haven't always embraced country but I appreciate it more as I grow up. And southern rock combines the best of country and rock together. I would say .38 Special is my favorite 80s southern rock band. Great songs, even their ballads. From my knowledge, they haven't made new music in a while Of course, ZZ Top is up there if you consider them southern rock as well. I think I like Velvet Revolver a little more than Guns 'N Roses. Axl Rose is great, but I think Slash's guitar and Scott Weiland's voice pair up better. Thanks for following my scrobbling, and I still follow yours. I try to vary up my music listening. With my play count, some users may have artists with 1,000 plays, but my top artist doesn't even have 500 yet. There's a lot of great songs out there and I'm still catching up on the old 80s albums.

I heard the new Steven Tyler song, I like it. We've been without Aerosmith/Steven for so long, it's refreshing he's back, even if he is riding the American Idol train. I love the 80s one hit wonders and I went deeper into their catalogs and they turned out to be more than one-trick ponies. Flock Of Seagulls, Men Without Hats, and others turned out to be really rad bands. A lot of people would assume an one-hit wonder's only good song is that one hit, but sometimes the song is so awesome, it's impossible to replicate the success. I'm even listening to 80s no-hit bands, and most of what I've listened has been a great experience, regardless of genre. I'm going to throw out a band to you that I listened to as a kid. 80s metal band with a Bruce Dickinson-type singer. Check it out: Barren Cross, Imaginary Music (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cH2azkFMPE)

The sax solo in Duran Duran's "Rio" is one of my favorite music video moments of the 80s. I didn't realize they were up to their 3rd single. I never mind having new DD to chart. What are some of your favorite 80s one-hit wonder songs (even if they had more than one hit because I look what charted below the top ten)? One of my favorites is After The Fire, "Der Kommissar". It's one of the songs that satisfies on all levels: synths, guitars, and bass. Also, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, "Relax." That was a monster single. It was so catchy, but it's also really subversive. The song always seems fresh, even though I overplayed it so many times in the past.

So, Def Leppard has three new songs on the album. Kinda like a greatest hits deal, only it's a live album. Good to see Warrant back on the trail. I've been hearing they're back and I'm excited to hear the new single, but no Jani Lane. Sad news. It's like the new Alice in Chains. Sounds close enough, but still not the same. The new Jane's Addiction song has been growing on me. It's seems like they take 8 years off between albums! I think Simple Plan is back and Pierre has a great voice, which sets them apart from the other pop punk bands out there. Taryn Manning is not really a familiar name but she's been around. She's first an actress and she appeared in 8 Mile with Eminem. She was also one half of the brother-sister Boomkat duo. They hit top 10 on my chart with "The Wreckoning" back in 2003.

Thanks for the recommendations, I'll check them up. Adele is a bit overrated, however it's good to have someone like her on top of the charts. The weird thing is that rock bands hardly ever top the mainstream chart anymore. Every big hit is calculated by producers, marketing teams, and other personnel. There's some good rock songs out ("Rope" by Foo Fighters, for one), but they don't generate the same fandom as Katy Perry or Lady Gaga. So be it, but back in the 80s, bands like Van Halen, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, Poison and Guns 'N Roses were reaching the top of the mainstream charts.

I love the anticipation for a new album coming out by artists I follow, including those who are coming back from the 80s or those who released an album the prior year. New music rocks. Working on a chart has pushed me to branch out and keep on exploring. Otherwise, I would be happy with the old favorites, but then I would be missing out. I discovered quite a lot of new bands I like, since I decided to take a chance on an unfamiliar name and see what they're all about. We've been talking about the 80s comebacks and I'm quite pleased with the new reinventions of bands including Devo, Human League, The Cars, Duran Duran, and more. I'm excited to see what Van Halen can come up with, but it better be good, because you can't go almost 30 years without Diamond Dave and then deliver something mediocre. I know Def Leppard is coming out with a new live album, but do you know if they're recording a studio album with all new material as well?

I was wondering where you've been and it's great to have you back. R. Kelly at #1 — bit of a surprise to me as well. His new album is like a Motown tribute album. I love my synths and my guitars, but it's nice to break it up and give other genres an opportunity to rise up when the songs are good. I'm looking forward to listening to the new Cars album — I'll let you know my thoughts when I listen to it. I tell you right now that "Sad Song" is on its way to #1 on my chart. Their comeback has been the most meaningful to me this year. They still have it and their lyrics are amazing! I'll check out the new Bowling For Soup too. I remember the 1985 song with all its 80s references. I have a recommendation for you to check it out. The band is called Souvenir, really under-the-radar. They are from Spain and they sing in French plus some songs in English. Really good bass and synths with a surf guitar vibe. "Dance It Away" is top 5 on my chart, also check out "Ta Machine" and "Allô, Allô".

Good to see you're back in the game with your computer restoration! Here's to more scrobbling! I'm almost at 50,000 plays myself, amazing! I just heard of Bad Habit myself, and they are Swedish and their discography goes back to the mid-80s. Egomanic is good...you are right, I'm debuting it on the next chart. I like the new Def Lep single, a throwback to their 80s era. Thanks for showing me to Rival Schools. There's a lot of bands that are playing 80s metal now...wonder if one of them will be big on US rock radio sometime soon. Much appreciation for continuing to visit my chart. I now have you in mind when I make it, wondering which songs you're going to pick up on.

If music of this decade continues what 2010 and early 2011 started, the 10s might overtake the 80s as my favorite decade of music. There's a lot of great music out there today — I even like what's going on in the mainstream. Did you happen to catch the Coachella concerts on YouTube? Duran Duran played there and they were awesome. I think DD is one of the bands that call pull off being modern and retro at the same time. Hope you had a good weekend!

LOL at Skillet, No. 7. It really is 7, I'll fix it later. My chart is set in the future, isn't it? I don't really have a good answer for that, besides going a little ahead years ago and never going back to the actual week = chart week pace. Every song in my library comes from my MP3 collection. I have worked on my collection for almost 10 years now, and I have almost every retro album I ever wanted. I have an external hard drive to hold all the music. Nowadays, you can buy large storage drives on the cheap. It's a good investment! I take for granted all the access to music I have now (compared to the old days of radio), but it's really music that keeps me going in life and I'm really happy I can listen to anything I want at any moment.

I feel like my chart is on warp speed right now. So yeah, you've noticed the current trend — most songs are risers and songs fall off fast to make way for the new batch of songs. I have a longevity award (30+ weeks) and that hasn't been touched in a year and half. Heck, it's been awhile since I've had a song hit 20 weeks. I like to give chart love to those 80s groups when they release good music. There's more Human League on the way too. NKTOBSB is New Kids On The Block (NKOTB) and Backstreet Boys (BSB) together. Still holding my breath for the Van Halen reunion album. That's the big one I'm waiting for. It's been almost 30 years since we've seen Diamond Dave with Eddie Van Halen, and I can't wait to listen to what they come up with in present days. The Cars album is coming out soon, right? Already off to a good start with the singles!

I'm working on a new chart tonight. Already finished it and I'm updating the archives right now, which take awhile. I could have it uploaded in a few hours. Brand new #1, familiar 80s group getting its first Goo #1. 22 debuts as well, including quite a few from long-absent artists.
