hey, are you headed to Carnegie Mellon this fall? i've got a super tight bro headed there as well. we had the only indie band in Princeton with a beatboxing pianist back in high school :DD

Hi, you have really good taste. I mean you probably knew that but still it felt like it needed to be said.

You're welcome! I'm glad you liked it! That's the one that I go back to the most, especially Ropes in Tears. And if you liked Merzbeat I think you should be able to get into the rest. His discography is pretty overwhelming though, it's hard to figure out where to go next. And I would really love that, seriously, I've missed you, you should message whenever you get the chance. I never see you online!

Oh wow, that's hard. I think most people would tell you 1930, which isn't a bad place to start, especially if you're wanting to dive straight into harsh noise, but Merzbeat is better if you want to ease into it, it's more "conventional". I also recommend Fukurou from the 13 Japanese Birds series, it has a lot of atmosphere, and Music for Bondage Performance, which is more ambient than noise.

Yeah Boris is kind of a strange band lol. They genre hop a lot and it's really hard to know where to start or how to take them as a whole. Generally if you like drone, stuff like Flood, Amplifier Worship and Feedbacker are a good start. If you're looking for a more hard stoner rock kind of sound, Pink and Akuma no Uta are good. Vein is kind of the odd ball out as it's more of hardcore crust punk album with noise influence.

Well if you don't mind punk influence, Vein by Boris and Epic Fits by PRE are pretty good noise rock influenced albums. I don't particularly understand the appeal of harsh noise as a genre though.

nice. tell me what you think, yeah? i got myself some stuff by Twin Sister, Young Man, The Sea & Cake, The National, Chairlift, Alt-J (really cool stuff!), Blonde Redhead, and a few others. well, E!E! and The World Is are touring together for a few dates... but they're going to the midwest, so i guess the show you'll catch is a one-off.

yeah, i think it was a matter of taste cuz they're doing it right :) just didn't really get to me. and i feel ya—just loaded up on 14 CDs with my first trip to my favorite record store in 4 months. spent like 50 bucks, but it was wayyyy worth it. not like i'll get to all the discs in the next few months, but i'll try :D and i will—i'm actually going more for Empire! Empire!—found The World Is fairly derivative. but that thing doesn't matter live so much.

ok, thanks for the recs. i'm more of a casual fan :P i do have that sigur ros disc on CD. and so far, the MBV CD is sweet. i am liking it a lot more than Loveless, which just didn't resonate much with me.

yeah, i've not gotten into many of the original shoegaze bands, but i've found new wave shoegaze and dream pop to be pretty amazing. i would recommend giving Hideout by [artist]Film School[/artist] a good listen. By the Hedge by [artist]Minks[/artist] is amazing, too, but not totally shoegaze :P and i've been more of a casual post-rocker of late... anything that's a must-listen? i've still got to give Take Care by EITS a spin...

haha cool. but good music in both directions. have you given the shoegaze scene much of a try? there's some great stuff there beyond MBV and Slowdive (ok, not many are better than Slowdive—a serious crush of mine :P). i guess Psychic Babble has the shoegaze thing going on, too.

nice sounds. post-rock and 90s emo! :) just got myself a copy of Isn't Anything and am ready to give it a go. i think it'll suit me more than the over-referenced Loveless. sweetness. you ever taken Time Spent Driving (90s emo) or Einar Stray (post-rock, art pop) for a spin? or with your Circa Survive history... Colin's Psychic Babble project? pure gorgeous. dropped you an add :)
