OK, I'll check out your recs. As for mine... I'm severely in need of some new music and am struggling to think of anything you might not have heard. If you've never heard The Dears I suggest checking them out strongly. The 2nd album Gang of Losers is absolutely amazing. The vocals are like a mix of Damon Albarn and Morrissey, but it works.

Yes, this shout thing doesn't work as nicely as it should - have to click through your correspondent's page to write something back. I saw SSC at Dublin Castle a few years ago... the place was pretty empty, which was a real shame. I definitely prefer Mr Y's vocals, though. I've only listened to Simple once or twice – like you say, probably a grower. I see you've got Curve high up your overall list - I've been meaning to check them out. Where should I start, do you reckon?

Addendum to the previous... just listened to the Andy Yorke album. It's nice, but not overwhelming. Lots of Dune Sea cello. MIght be a grower, though. I also finally got round to supporting Nigel Powell by buying the first Sad Song Co album... will also think about Dive Dive and SSC #2 (which he's selling as a you-choose-the-price thing) if it's good... which it's meant to be. All in all, though, it's just nice to have Andy Yorke back again and making heartfelt little songs.

I've actually got the Andy Yorke album, but haven't listened to it yet: the perils of buying cheap second hand CDs faster than I can listen to them. Gets good reviews, and yes Nigel Powell is on there (and producing). I'd listen to it now, but am stuck at CERN for the week with just a laptop & the Firefly DVD box set! Going to visit your college dad in Lausanne on Thursday, as it happens.

Well I think it's just Download festival at the moment. Would be nice to go but it means sitting through 3 days of Slipknot / Limp Bizkit (or however you spell it) as there's only weekend tickets available. I saw Andy Yorke had a solo album last year - I've not checked but it sounds like the UT drummer / bassist on there too. So to all intents a new UT album...
