That's grand. I am trying to shift my schedule around to be able to see them in both December and March. I can't wait.

I traveled eleven hours to Knoxville, TN and stayed with a friend for Big Ears. He was the last show we saw. Stage was totally pitch black other than a dim light shining upon him. Place was static, almost nothing moving other than Sten's fingers. He played "Treetop Drive Part 2" and it was far and away louder than anything I heard when I saw Swans on their TBK tour in 2015. I'll never forget it because the whole festival had built up to that moment for my friend and I. After the hour long set was over, we just walked out and walked a mile or two through downtown Knoxville, speechless. Eventually my friend just looked at me and said "My God..," which is about where my mind was too. It was breathtaking. It's not hard to get a grip on the brooding atmospheric nature of his music just by listening to his albums, but hearing it exude itself as this raw, raucous evil was unsettling, and took a few weeks for me to really wrap my mind around.

Outside of the music itself, I like its ability to be broken down and categorized. At one point, I had over 250,000 songs in my library before purging it, and neatly organizing the genres, artists, years, etc. is such a beautiful process, even if a little time consuming. It doesn't have the mind-blowing inherent nature of big data, but on a small scale it's just as incredible to me. I'm an organized and analytical guy, so being able to sort things out in my life and at work is how I progress. As far as the actual music goes, I find attempts to align how I feel with what an artist attempts to create to be highly fruitful. I of course understand that objectivity leaves no room for emotions, but the times at which my elicited emotions are perfectly counteracted by an artist's outpouring to make all the time spent worth it. I've found ambient to align most often not only because of its textures and atmospheres, but its freedom to elicit deep feelings without guiding me as to which ones.

I don't know how to describe it really... That album as a whole was that "thing I'm looking for," y'know? I'll try to see it even though my knowledge of art and Van Gogh is pretty limited in comparison to where I am with music.

I grinded that album almost nonstop for several months, but don't be fooled as most of the plays were in my sleep. Still, I've actually listened to that album nothing short of 500 times. I haven't seen the film just yet but stole a bunch of .gif snippets that were aesthetically pleasing. Give me some time and I'll report back.

It's going well, I'm making an effort to be more busy this semester, so I volunteered at a whole bunch of places, enough to keep myself busy for four months. the experience is good. I graduate end of next year which means it ll have been 4 years by then. Fine Art sounds cool, how' re you finding it so far, how was Seven btw ....

Icelandic BM is great, yeah. Misthyrming are soon releasing a split with Sinmara, and I'm really hyped for that. And I'm glad you like Duszę Wypuścił, they clearly need more audience. They are part of the 'Let the World burn' circle, in wich Furia and Odraza for example are aswell. I have yet to find a bad release from this circle, absolutely love anything from them.

aaaa, florence + the machine is really lovely, her songs are just super expressive. I think if you want to get into Chelsea Wolfe you should start with "The Grime and the Glow" it reminds me a teensy tiny bit of the quieter moments on lungs and it's just a really soothing atmospheric sort of thing and I'm not sure if this makes sense but I like bands and artists where I feel like they have something they need to tell you and I think both Chelsea and Florence very much have things they want us to know.

Cocteau Twins sticks out for me, I'm not sure if this is interesting to you but I like cute anecdote-y things. My dad really loved Cocteau Twins and he'd always recomend them to me when I played Beach House in the car, I need to listen to them more. The only boy I've ever loved has all the Cocteau Twins' albums on his phone and he's never listened to them and isn't really sure how they got there. I think it's really mysterious.

Ha! I teach at a university, and I live in the faculty housing. Sounds like I've got a few years on you, which would account for why I listen to a little more than punk and grindcore.
