Hi Yrusac! We saw that you have a pretty good music taste and thought that you'd maybe like our music as well. We are three girls from the forests of Sweden and we are going to record our very first album in Woodstock this summer! We would love if you checked out this song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sc_SKuEZm0o ! Let us know what you think (it's much appreciated) by commenting the video, and also check out our cover of 'Kathy's Song' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44kjqZUC5PU that we got the chance to play live for Paul Simon! Hello W., I am actually neither in Budapest any more nor in Berlin yet,. There I ll probably be only from mid-July onwards. Currently I'm touring the Bundesrepublik checking out one archive after the other - and spots for watching soccer - mostly stationed in Frankfurt. It's actually weird and nice to be back 'home' and to my mother tongue, especially regarding media and the arts. And yes, summer finally kicked in here, too. I decided that it's too hot for music explorership right now so I'm sticking to or coming back to old favourites: apart from a concert of the wonderfully crazy theatre band Leik Eick in Bochum. How are you doing these days? Some new musical discoveries? And the whole summer in Amsterdam ahead? Actually, a friend of mine seeks accomodation for September, preferably a room in a shared flat, but he got stuck and upset with scams on craiglist. Any ideas for help? I hope you are well! C

Hello W., I'll actually be coming back from Zagreb that night. I will combine a little Zagreb visit with checking out Why? in concert the night before.Even though I haven't decided on it yet, unfortunately I will probably be coming back a bit after 10pm only. But I noticed that the concert starts at 9, so actually the concert shouldn't be over by then, right or what do you think? When will you arrive? Keleti and C. are close anyway, so sure, why not? I could still drop by then. A quite welcome diversion after a rather long train ride. Otherwise, we could see if it works out Friday. Just let me know, and in any case, safe travels!

W., sure, if we find the time, a coffee will be my pleasure! I totally subscribe to your Alt-folk list. The smooth things, after a while, I'm completely fed up with and I need a complete lent for an unknown amount of time but anyway, sometimes, I'm just needy of just background music, a little soundtrack to my everyday life:) Mount Eerie are actually playing here on Friday at Toldi. But there is the next conference starting that night and my presentation is due the next day, so I 'm not yet sure if I will be able to attend it though:( I'm done for now regarding conf.es, I believe, I'd love to concentrate more on what I want to do for the time being. I'll take a break from conferences for a year or so:) Good luck with your paper and all! What's your field anyway? Take care,C

hey there, I didn t even acknowledge your 'presentation', W., sorry, it' s my pleasure, indeed! I was just withheld exactly by these international conferences,or more accuratley its preparation. currently writing from lago di como. lucky me, enjoying myself at a colloquium on the lake. weird,.don't know at all if your folk fits mine but - even though more a now- then- all time favourite: i belive vandaveer (poppy), horse feathers, alexi murdoch---could be sth worth listening as long as you feel you need consolation, it s very smooth , nothing like DaaU or deus -but anaway beside the classics like James Taylor I really like like them, in moments of weakness :), best wishes from the lake, W., sorry for the delay, let me know what u r listening to, Caroline

Hey W. Yep, PhD it is, after years and years in Berlin, I felt like changin, so I went to CEU. And I'm mostly glad I did. And'abroad' also means going back to Germany, other places as well though-the beauty of a 'transnational' history project:)regarding SD, yes, the electronica in this case is just another instrument not the most defining aspect,my favourite way of applying electro.unfortunately there aren't any shows coming up, the violinist is pregnant but I hope they ll be back.I can send you more tracks if you like.regarding strings, oh yes, Lenski was the one that drew me to DAAU in the first place and the strings on dEUS are very good, too. the cheesiness, well, I have learned to embrace it at least partly, not that I am an outspoken dream pop fan or sth of that sort but at least sometimes that s just what it needs (or I need) - if applied ironically or not (if strings are used to their fullest, that includes rockin, fullfisted chords, virtuoso runs AND weeping, I believe :)).

:)Right, how it goes...makes for the most consistent Hungary-lovers. Nice. Me though, I didn't come here - or back- for love but for doin my PhD most of all. But I have found many good reasons to hang on a bit. but its time for movin to archives abroad soon.nevertheless, Bp is my homebase for some time to come, still.yep, ms=mc is special, indeed. I always thought that its weirdness was charming. I'll see if I m in a rock mood that day of Turbo's concert and ll let you know if in my eyes your bias is playing tricks on you....dresch quartet is noted down.lately i am fallin for lajkó félix again, esp his last rather purist CD,but I have actually a weakness for strings, violin particularly (see Santa Diver) and a virtuoso in that regard admittedly often rules out other considerations of musical predilection. Strings easily have sth cheesy to them.nevertheless, perhaps, if you haven't yet, that's someone u might add to your list of exquisite Hungarian musicians.Üdv., C

Hm!See, and I thought Bp was original-ish;) These days I get the impression that staying here for two years or so is a rather common sport:) how come if I may? Thanks for the dEUS-reminder,gorgeous to be back to them.Know this feeling when your ‘audit memory’ kicks in and u r transported back to when you listened to sth I used to listen to ‘my sis=my clock’ and back then mistook them for some sort of spaniards .yea,well.Still like the sound, there's something about bands like Morphine, Soul Coughing and dEUS which I loved and still do:slow and fast monotony, but hardly boring or always the same, groovy, pressing, darkish and funky at the same time.Guess that s it.Nothing against QOTSA or Turbo, even though u are right, not exactly my playground. There’s a A38- concert coming up,perhaps I’ll check them out live then.I know two tracks of Dresch Quartet-does he also play flute?-which I enjoy very much but I never saw him or did get hold of the CDs yet. Will do so now, thanks.Szia, best wishes,C

How come you know them? Not being a Hungarian myself, I only got to know Quimby here. While you are right about their early albums, I cannot really warm up to them. I have seen the singer in a nice HUngarian chansons-reinterpreted-project lately and there he was great, but eventually I'm a bit picky with voices and his isn't my thing. The earlier albums perhaps lack the originality and personality, so why not stick with Tom in the original. The music scene, the capacities of the local musicians are on the average outstanding but, weirdly, besides my 'love to the side' for folkinspired music and enjoying great live acts I have trouble finding really great bands - possibly it's only me to blame for it though. Erik Sumo seems to me the most versatile band, indie pop rock though. One exception: There is a young local jazz /electro/Psych band called Santa DIver which I adore. dEUS,admittedly lost track of them in my teens, liked them then.Which album do u recommend for reappraisal?

Right, I ran into DAAU via last.fm I believe and was immediately taken. A Dutch-Belgian friend here still owes me an earlier CDs of theirs which I don't know, yet. Can't listen to it all the time but it doesn't lose it's beauty when one is ready for a new DAAU-period. So, how about the other Belgian colleagues Absynthe Minded, something for you as well? If Tom Waits and DAAU are to your liking? Maybe?Even though I think, I prefer DAAU. Best wishes from Budapest, C

if 'audioaddict' is a compliment to you, well you must be one :D unfortunately, Turbo is not well-known in Hungary, as the level public good taste here....is not so satisfactory as it should be. It doesn't mean that people browse s####y music on last.fm, instead they don't browse anything, just listen to 5 songs during a lifetime :P

I just wanted to point out that there must be a lot of bands out there, sharing names...however, it is the problem of audioaddicts only :P Turbo (HUN) just released their first album and I think you can listen to their stuff on their myspace page...

sure but what should you do with The Matadors or the Spooks then...these are just two bands with the same name and me being a fan for them...I wonder how do you know both Turbos from Netherlands??
