Hey Valene, do you have any recs on death industrial similar to Atrax Morgue? Thanks.

I couldn't point only specifically to Death Industrial, even though the genre overlaps with Power Electronics - take Whitehouse's Dedicated do Peter Kürten. Absolute masterpiece. Short songs with powerful, abrasive vocals over minimalist feedback worship and loops. Definitely reminds me of Atrax Morgue. But then, there are his (Marco's) obvious influences: Brighter Death Now, Maurizio Bianchi, Mauthausen Orchestra, and other projects with a general darker atmosphere that come to mind, such as Genocide Organ, Anenzenphalia, Karl Runau, and maybe some Esplendor Geométrico..?

I still have to check them out, The only thing I got to listen to lately, was a band that was somehow related to AM, it's called CCC CNC NCN and it has an album called Suicidio Modo Di Uso, it was pretty similar to AM. i will get into Marco's influences first.

I listened to Brighter Death Now, couldn't stand more than one track. Something was off. I get that A.M songs deal with perversion, but this was something else. Couldn't stand it.

It was the lyrics. I get that A.M deals with the same macabre stuff, but that was too atrocious.

Sorry for the late reply, don't know why my earlier answer wasn't saved on the server (presumably because there was a problem with it last night), but anyway, I haven't listened to much DoF at all. Reduced to Ashes has some pretty good riffs, the kind of you would hear from Incantation or Immolation. Both bands whose evil atmosphere seeps from their style of riffing, which I personally consider to be the quintenssensial Death Metal riff. From my memory it somewhat alternates between that and Suffocation-inspired chugs. Inbreeding the Anthropofagi has an atmosphere so thick and dense that it reminds me of Disembowelment. Other than that, MA lists bands such as Defeated Sanity, Disgorge, Decrepit Birth, and Dying Fetus as related, which I think is just.

Last fm was cranky last night, yeah. I really like the style of death metal from deeds of flesh and deicide. I used to listen to cryptopsy too.

I was reading the lyrics to the long defeat on metal archives for the last couple days and wow they really outdid themselves in terms of writing on that album. I almost wish they had a separate record where they just read out the lyrics cause their like poetry in a way. Dark twisted poetry.

Yes, I mean, when it comes to Metal bands with very good lyrics, not just well written or merely profound, but lyrics which one would come back to reading even without music, very few bands come to mind. When it comes to proper lyrics, DsO always outstands everyone else, with texts that feel as if their meaning lies beyond the words itself and might be conceived as a whole with the music to be understood... I think there is actually a story or some sort of in the booklet of TLD accompaining the actual lyrics. Read on a last.fm comment once something indicating that.

Even though he was a prodigy it’s clear he developed his intellect and worldview over time. So that reassures me a big, i used to be a bit insecure about my intelligence (and still sometimes am) but I remind myself I still have time to grow and I’m not going to be on the level he’s at right away. Intellectualism is like a mountain, some people start out more advantaged than others, sure, but everyone still has to put in the effort and work to climb it if they really want to engage with the ideas. No one becomes a genius immediately or without struggle.

It’s the same thing with music taste, I didn’t start out listening to Deathspell Omega or other kinds of experimental and extreme music, I had to develop my taste over time, and eventually I was able to appreciate and even love those kinds of music (I think DsO said something similar in one of their interviews, that taste is like a muscle you have to develop). With Hasjarl, I noticed that he mainly mentioned metal bands in that first interview (although all very good ones) whereas in the Bardo Mythology interview he cited a much more diverse range of influences, so his taste surely blossomed over time too. Even though it’s very different from the later ones, you can still feel the passion that Hasjarl had for the music, and that hasn’t changed a bit to the present. DsO really is a labor of love in every way, with their dedication to making every aspect as good as it can be is “taken to the extreme limit”, as they say.

I’ve been reading a bit of Bataille and Nietzsche, and it’s shined a bit of light on the lyrics (the book your looking for is Bataille’s the Inner Experience, btw). I’m still working on Nietzsche, I really like some of his ideas, and I find Bataille really interesting. I still have a long way to go though, and I want to take my time to really understand it instead of just rushing through it so I can claim I’m “smart”. I’m just glad I’m reading at all, not to get too personal but I was really depressed and struggled with mental health for a long time, and it made it hard for me to think clearly. I’m doing better now, I’m trying to “tread the path of solar solitude”, and that approach has helped me. Anyway, take you time to respond, or don’t at all, I’m not super active either anymore so I understand it.
