I love how out of place Sparks seem in that lineup lol. My favorites are Kimono My House and Hello Young Lovers. Did you watch Edgar Wright's documentary about them?

I do! It didn't immediately grab me like most of their other songs but it grew on me. Have you heard the original version Gareth recorded in the 90s? https://garethliddiardandruipereira.bandcamp.com/album/bong-odyssey

Wow, I think I liked that even more. More stripped back, but still with atmosphere, love those drums too. I notice the lyrics more in this version too. Thanks for the rec!

I'm a novice to the genre myself but I've been enjoying Shame, Fontaines D.C., & Sleaford Mods. I have to be in the right mood for the last one or I just find them annoying lol. Did you enjoy the first Idles album as much as Joy?

So I'll answer your last question first: No, I didn't think Brutalism is as good as Joy, but I like it for what it is. It has a lot of rougher songs but it's also quite energetic and the lyrics are still quite engaging. And I don't have a huge knowledge of post-punk, a lot of the bands I liked in the 80's are more on the pop/new wave side, like Talking Heads, XTC, The Police, and Orange Juice. They are all technically post-punk in a way, but they're more like pop bands to me. But as far as newer stuff I really enjoy Parquet Courts and Ought. I'm trying to get into Preoccupations and Protomartyr. I think all of those bands are the most popular ones in the moment in this particular style. I recently listened to Shame and I did enjoy them. I'm obsessed with Idles though. They inject so much personality into their music that it's easy to gravitate toward.
