And you know what is NOT good? "Belle and Sebastian: Just a Modern Rock Story." Horrible, horrible sentimental music "journalism." The guy romanticizes each member of the band like he/she was a character in a children's book. I actually hate reading, but stay the course because I want to know about the band. You may think I'm being too critical as usual, but trust me, I'm right about this one.

OH MAN. And this whole semester I read "Please Kill Me: An Uncensored Oral History of the Punk Movement." There's this page in the back of the book which is like "Dear Readers, this book has been out for 10 years, everyone's read it, and yet we're only now starting to see some returns. So stop lending out to your friends, you assholes." Anyway. Now I can lend it to you because New Wave Dave gave it back to me in June.

Oh! Oh. Okay. I'm about to finish "In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto," which is all about how we view food (and what is wrong with how we view food). I've also been working on Jane Jacobs' "The Death and Life of Great American Cities" for forever (I started it as a reaction to Meadowmount), but that's going to take longer. Really harrowing and good: Phillip Gourevitch's "We wish to inform you that tomorrow we will be killed with our families," about the Rwandan genocide.

What I mean is, having such a great memory of listening to "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out" in a car at night causes you to listen to it maybe 16x the next day, which is very unhealthy. So yes, I guess one indirectly causes the other. Happiness --> unhappiness. And yes, I would like a Lush CD. Oh hey, could you get me some Violent Femmes? Any/all would be nice.

Favorite mag fields songs? Hm...really that just depends on what I'm in the mood for. Stephin Merritt is so diverse that I really just look for songs that fit the mood I'm in. You can't do that with a lot of bands, but I think that there is a Magnetic Fields song for every occasion. No exceptions.
