Thanks! I actually still listen to a fair amount of music, but mostly on my MP3 player during walks and workouts, so there should be even more. Yeah, that moment from La Haine is how I've constantly been feeling in recent years, lol.

Nice taste! Radiohead and Swans are two bands I've been meaning to get more into (I've actually been enjoying The Smile recently, but haven't gone back to retry Radiohead yet, having bounced off them a long time ago).

Thanks, you too! I assume you enjoyed Get Back? I first started listening to The Beatles way back around 2007-2008 in the last years of high school, I would have killed for that kind of footage back then. :D

Thanks, you too! It's been the way I'm feeling ever since the mobilization started in Russia. I mean, it's been bleak since the start of the war, but the first few weeks from that day it felt like the proverbial moment of landing, like something would have to snap soon. Doesn't seem that way for now though. Anyway, it's a fantastic movie, they were showing it in theaters in our town last year, I'd never heard of it, and it was a pleasant surprise. It has heavy substance without being bleak or being a heavy watch at all, and that's fairly rare.

that's a nice interpretation of what was going on this year and how you've linked it to the movie, it's sad to see that the issues presented are still important as they were 25 years ago. hate only breeds more hate

Hey there! Thanks, your library is great too, feels like I could find some different sounds. Oh, in this and last year I'm really listening and discovering a lot of music, this is being a beautiful path.

I had a few depressing years where I listened to very little new music, I'm really happy to be in the mood to be taking in a lot of new music and different genres again!

Да я в начале года жесть как угорел по ним. Я их немного пробовал до этого, не сильно заходило, потом как-то наткнулся на Пропаганду в посте ВК, включил, и у меня щёлкнуло.

I hadn't played for like 2 years, but I've been back to it a bit recently. Actually, I was sure the Russian PokerStars client released in 2018 or so allowed only play money, but I was wrong - although it's apparently a bitch to withdraw, since the banks aren't supposed to allow it. Thankfully, I got most of my roll out a few years ago, but I still have ~$200 to play around with. What about you?

You gotta check out GGPoker then, that's where I'm playing (even though it's not allowed in Australia) - it's a pretty good client, lots of bonuses and rakeback and good tournaments but the cash game rake is rough. Lots of fish, though.

Sounds nice, though their minimum cash stakes appear to be 0.5/0.10, and I'm used to sticking to 0.1/0.2 and 0.2/0.5. No stat trackers would be good for me, though; I never used any. I'll check them out if I get more into playing again, although it's all moot if withdrawal is impossible. :D

Thanks! It came at an interesting time after I had had a breakdown and a reevaluation of where my life was headed, and Disco Elysium became a quasi-religious kind of experience for me. Easily the most I've ever been emotionally impacted by a game. Now it sits in a cozy little spot in the past between two terrible years that I would love to return to.

Oh, that was 9 years ago! I haven't listened to Niemen in a looong time. I had actually been meaning to revisit him, but I don't even remember what I used to like. I remember one thing: there is one album where he sings songs in Russian (folk songs, I think), but his accent is pretty bad, and I only realized that it was in Russian in the middle of the record when he sings something like "Девушки в Воронеже самые красивые" - "Voronezh has the prettiest girls," and that's where I'm from. :D

Oh man, I had a bit of cognitive dissonance when I saw your shout. We were just trying out a tabletop RPG system with my friends called "Tales From the Loop" where you play as kids in the 80s in an alternate history world. So I chose the "Rocker" background and made my kid a 15-year-old punk that's looking for authentic "hardcoreness" in everything. Basically every second word out of my mouth was "hardcooooore" in my best Egghead voice. Took me a few seconds to realize you were referencing Disco Elysium because of my profile pic, and I wasn't going crazy. :D

Thanks! I find it myself stupid to just give stars and not saying anything. If you have an album, it'd be only reasonable to write your thoughts about it too. No offence to you.

None taken, of course. Maybe if I actually owned the albums I would feel the same way. :D But I guess I also feel like the only things I could say about an album are very subjective and non-substantial since I have very minimal theoretical knowledge of music, so I would only write a review if I had studied the band and album's history beforehand so I could relate something of tangible value. And I'm too lazy to do that for the amount of music I listen to. I should probably start doing it with movies though, since I know a bit more about that.

Well I have no clue about theory or correct genres or anything, I'm solely writing them as an average person who just likes music. You don't have to be a "real" critic to tell if you like the album or not and why :) (at least on there, professional magz are different)

Led_Zayatts
Yeah, but I love to read reviews where I learn something, so I feel like I should be writing like that as well (not that everyone should do that). I used to write album spotlights for a friend's group in VK, the Russian counterpart to Facebook, I mostly focused on the album's history.

I've listened to most of King Crimson's albums and I actually do like most of them quite a bit lol. In The Court of the Crimson King is one of my favorite albums ever. But they probably wouldn't be in my top 50 favorite bands/artists. I probably do like the album cover more than the band itself lmao.

Electric Larryland, Rembrandt Pussyhorse and Hairway to Steven are good starting points. Also, the self titled EP is good if you want some freaky punk.

Her discog is pretty small so I'd say go through it chronologically. Marry Me has the best arrangement, Actor is her best work imo, Strange Mercy is very good, s/t is pretty good, and her last album was pretty bad tbh.

It's hard to say. They did a lot of different stuff and have a lot of albums. Maybe Stoner Witch. It has heavy punk songs, slow heavy songs and some Ambient and experimental stuff. Also, Stag is a really varied. It's hit and miss but, it's got a lot of great stuff. If you want some straight up sludge and hardcore punk then the first album would be a good one too.

Sorry, I didn't reply right away and then I somehow forgot all about it. So, about the Do Not Disturb album: Right now I've only listened to it once so I don't actually have any favourite tracks yet. I do like the album, I think it's one of the better modern day VdGG albums. The songs are pretty varied, it's not just more of the same. They say this is probably the last VdGG album. I can understand, the guys are getting old.. 🤔

I can say for sure that I like the songs, but I don't really want to listen to it again because of the production. Maybe I'm crazy, but no matter how many times I tried to listen, I still hate the mix. :D Meanwhile, I'll get my dose of angry music from Psi Vojaci, check them out if you're interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHS99Wz1ZmA.

Oh, right, you can reply here now. Posted on your wall initially by force of habit. :D I really like the songs, but I kind of hate the mix. In some parts it's alright, but in some parts it sounds sooo flat. Grounding, for which they hired a producer, had a much richer sound in contrast. The one definite favorite here is Alfa Berlina, and in general I like the middle of the album (Alfa Berlina - Oh No, I Must Have Said Yes) the most. Some people really praise Go, the closer, but it doesn't do much for me. To me it sounds like a weaker version of "Enough" from What, Now?, Hammill's 2001 solo album.

Hey, i saw your post on Hotfox' profile about van der Graaf and i had to respond. I really enjoy symfo, but i feel like the eclectic side of prog is much more rewarding. Maybe i've been playing too much symfo lol. Oh and check out Birds and buildings if you haven't already.

In the 60s there were many British Beat bands, the Beatles were just one of them, but their records had that certain something, a significant deviation from the standard. It's quite obvious that the bands stole from each other. The Stones had really style when they stole the ideas from the Beatles.

Thank you! Yes, it's pretty hard to answer definitively, but there are some streams. I think, it started in 1956 with Elvis. That was only white R & B with hip shaking. Between 1965 and 1969 were the Beatles and Rolling Stones really good (and there were the Kinks, Animals and Who). From "Highway 61" came Bob Dylan with new lyrics and sound. Ecstasy instead exegesis. Jimi Hendrix was one of them. Velvet Underground, Lou Reed and David Bowie transformed the rock into an art form. Important to me are people like Kevin Ayers, John Fahey or Jorma Kaukonen. And of course has the technical innovations an enormous importance.

Talking Heads were for me one the most exciting avant-garde bands of the 80s. I also liked the very complex rhythmic structures of David Byrne. My own most embarrassing favorite song comes from the 60s. "Wild Thing" by the Troggs? A cruel song, but I loved it hot. That was actually an abysmal band. But Rock'n'Roll!
