There is. Not quite sure how I feel about it to be honest - it's not quite hit home with me yet, not many big standout moments, though it's clearly competent. I'll keep trying though, it often takes me a while to fully click with their records. Seems to be one of the few metal records from the last few years to be getting slightly wider attention beyond 'the scene' - I think I even spotted it in the Guardian's best of the year so far roundup recently.

How's it feel to be 'Super' with someone with The Weeknd so high up their charts? :D I'll give this a spin ta

I tried the Ikemefuna, particularly warmed into it for second two tracks which I thought were great!

For The Weeknd I'd say early or recent are best, with the occasional banger during the middle period. I think the original 3 mixtapes are a good place to start, I personally like House of Balloons best. What's interesting is that he's now getting increasingly involved with Daniel Lopatin (aka. Oneohtrix Point Never) , done a few songs / remixes together and apparently he music-directed the Superbowl performance. So hoping for a Oneohtrix-produced LP coming some time soon!

My pleasure. Did you prefer the first experimental half or the chopped and screwed half more?

I found this channel of 90's jungle/dnb and have just been ploughing through the uploads.. a lot of little-known yet phenomenal artists cropping up.. not sure where you stand on this sound/genre but thought I'd shoot it as a recc your way ;-) https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSUg7eDPouYaBDIhlCc0pWQ/videos

Jammed some of these tunes earlier, so good! Love the early dnb that still has a lot of the jungle essence.

Cheers man. Yeh DnB was my route into dance music really, always going to have a place for it. And... at the end of the day... jungle is massive :D Have been rinsing a lot of house and techno these last few months but have actually been craving some more gnarly breaks, so I will definitely be checking these out - thanks for the tip, I appreciate it!

I'm glad a band finally had the courage to address the problem of powerviolence in the work place :L It was pretty cool I thought, especially the first track, awesome bass. I particularly like that sort of slow, sludgy pv :)

Its also common ground between my girlfriend and I, so she plays it a lot too. Tbh my ipod hasnt been scrobbling for about a year, so my stats a really skewed at the minute. Awesome you like the new Altar of Plagues, their best imo :) Also, were you at 65daysofstatic last night?

Haha yeah, much NMH love. I think the charts are slightly warped because my ipod doesnt seem to want to scrobble now, but yeah that album was on repeat an awful lot about a year ago :L

Definitely. I do like the dark aesthetic of it all. Experimentation is what keeps the genre from being stale too, I suspect the trve crowd consists almost entirely of 15 year olds and tryhards - from what I've heard I actually tend to find a lot of the pure / trve black metal the least interesting or worthy of listening to... though admittedly Burzum is possibly my favourite. Altar of Plagues have had the privilege of being the 666th artist in my library, surely the seal of approval from Satan himself. Listened to White Tomb, good stuff, cool post-rock kind of song structure

Yeah, admittedly I've dabbled in some non-black metal stuff (though in my defence a few untrve scrobbles have been due to other family members using spotify on my account) That album was surprisingly great, definitely on the right track. I've been trying to explore some less straightforward subgenres. I like a lot of the blackgaze, atmospheric, and ambient black metal stuff. Haven't had as much success with industrial black metal as I hoped. Here's a psychedelic black metal band I've just come across though, quite possibly the grandest thing I've heard all month http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3iyPePg5XWQ

Greetings. My own music events tend to follow what i think is appropriate to the atmosphere within the seasons of the wood with music, poetry, ritual and natural interventions often featuring fire. Other promoters follow their own visions and there is a certain natural evolvement which permeates and brings changes in direction. It maybe that you we see here some time. Barry
