I see. You and music used to go hand-in-hand. I suppose you're too busy for it now? Indeed. I'm exploring a real wide variety of music nowadays. I've discovered stuff from genres I never expected to like, such as funk rock and soul. It's fun. It has really shown me what I truly enjoy and what I fleetingly liked due to whatever reason. I rarely listen to DSBM nowadays, for example. I just can't stomach most of it.

I see you hate the new Pensées Nocturnes album. Why? I didn't even know there was a new one. I also haven't heard Ceci est de la Musique.

Even better than the likes of Marissa Nadler and Joanna Newsom? ;) I'll take your word for it. In fact, I'm gonna get the album now. Yeah, that's a problem with any artist who becomes big. That and ticket prices rocket. Although, having said that, a lot of metal bands still play smaller shows after having made it big. I was curious and wanted to see if I could recommend him. I've been listening to his works quite a bit recently and am really enjoying them. I'm not really into classical of any sort but his works could open a gate for me. I'm checking out Arvo Pärt soon too. Ambient/drone is the new obsession first and foremost.

No, no. Lungs, the debut. I've heard a couple of songs off it before, from adverts and the like. Is the second album significantly different? Do you like Max Richter?

I gather you spoke to the band members then? Neige was socially awkward when I met him too. He didn't quite know how to react to hordes of drunken Englishmen. Fursy wasn't though. He was quite chatty. Do you have any other shows lined up? I'm thinking of making Cult of Luna my next main one. They're playing in London next month. Should be awesome.

Oh, you went to see Alcest and Katatonia? What did you think of the gig? I was going to go to the same tour but I've seen both bands already and there are lots of shows around the same time which I think I'd prefer to go to, like Mono. You liked Paatos, didn't you? They've got a new album out. I've listened to it once and it sounded quite different to their previous stuff. Still good though!

Why wouldn't I be a fan? :( What's not to like? They've been on my radar for a year or two. Nothing like I expected and so much better than I could have ever anticipated. Mind you, I've only heard the one album. You listening to Florence + the Machine is probably more surprising!

No need to worry. My new iPod is here. I'm saving for a 1TB portable hard drive, too. That ought to be enough. I listened to the link and you're right, I didn't take to it. I'm not keen on those sorts of performances. One man/woman with their piano. It feels a bit bare and dull. Plus, those vocals were ... Weird. You've been listening to Cocteau Twins over the past month? Surprising.

I disliked her voice, too. She grew on me though, unlike you. There's something endearing about her vocal performances. I've not heard Ys yet, but I love her debut. Unfortunately, my hard drive crashed and then my iPod died so I lost everything and didn't get the chance to hear it. A replacement arrived today though (60GB classic). Baroque pop? Not especially. I can't say I've heard much. Why do you ask?

Strangeways was what got me into The Smiths. I initially didn't think much of The Queen is Dead but it has grown on me a lot in the past month or two. It has probably overtaken Strangeways as my favourite of theirs. Hatful of Hollow is a great compilation of songs, too. Ah, Elsiane are indeed very good. The vocalist kinda reminds me of Joanna Newsom but only slightly. Both have very weird and unique voices. I've been getting back into trip-hop quite heavily recently. I've mostly been listening to Tricky's Maxinquaye (which has also shot up in my estimation), Massive Attack's Protection and Everything But the Girl's Walking Wounded. I love their drum and bass influence and vocalist, Tracey Thorn (I think), who also does some vocal work on Protection. Oh, and Love Spirals Downwards.

Aw. You're getting self-conscious. How cute. Don't worry, regardless of your lack of ability to "sport a serviceable beard" (brilliantly worded, by the way), you're still damned sexy. Besides, beards aren't all they're cracked up to be. I grew one out last winter and, my god, do they itch. It made my skin feel awful, so I promptly shaved it off. Ha, I understand what you mean about the vocals, despite the fact that "bubblegummy" definitely isn't a word. ;) I think that might have something to do with the dream pop influence. That genre seems to require fluffy female vocals, which I'm not so fussed about. I'll definitely check out Hush then. Pretty sure I did mention Anilore. I was "stoked" to discover them. Reminds me of a mixture of The Angelic Process and Have a Nice Life. Very good band. Also, "doom pop"? How intriguing. I can actually kinda see why that was applied to their sound.

Your youthfulness probably has something to do with your inability to grow an actual beard. :) People generally tend to look younger without facial hair (yours is what we would consider, "bum fluff"). Oh, good. I thought you might like Alison's Halo. I've not heard anything other than their compilation, which is pretty good. I don't mind the vocals so much, but I am generally very easy to please, whereas you're not. I assume you recommend Hush? Discovered Anilore? That makes it sound like you did all the hard work. Didn't I throw them your way? I was obsessed with Anilore when I first found them, so I imagine I did.

Thoughts on Asobi Seksu, old man? It was Citrus that you listened to, wasn't it? I wonder if you have heard Alison's Halo, too? You might enjoy their Eyedazzler compilation. We've agreed on things before. Certainly more often than you'd probably care to admit in public. :( You should be thanking me, not insulting me. I introduced you to Airiel after all! Even if you did happen to point out that their compilation is better than the full-length (and quite rightly, too). I myself need to listen to it again. Despite how many tracks it has and its reasonable length, I'm not daunted by that prospect. I want to give it my full attention though. I'm going on a walk soon, so I may indulge in it then. :) I agree that Airiel are less catchy than The Daysleepers but I love their sound regardless. It's less "fluffy", for lack of a better word. As you say, the vocals are rougher and as is the music. I enjoy that. I've been obsessed with The Atomica Project recently. I quite enjoy their lyrics. They don't depress me as much as they do you but I can definitely feel the heartache in the lyrics.

I was just about to send you a message. You were right, unusually. ;) This compilation is far superior to the full-length. Not too dissimilar to The Daysleepers at times, especially the vocal delivery/sound. Very good, really liking it. Aside from The Railway Children, this is one of the best recent finds. The Atomica Project!

You're a fan of Michael Jackson? By the way, our compatibility is super again. I'm also glad to see you're now a full-time fan of The Daysleepers. Thanks to my recommendation. ;) They remind me of a number of metal bands with a not-so-obvious dream pop-ish sound thrown in.

Is it? That's a shame. There is an actual album coming out, right? Consensus seems to be that it's a bit too early for another album. I don't mind either way. Yeah, RYM told me about the Kauan album, too. I'm really excited for it also. I love practically everything Anton has ever done and to think that he's younger than us. :'(

I've heard of Beauty's Confusion before. I may have heard a sample somewhere but don't really recall it. That song you posted is excellent. I'll need to get the album it's on. Very lovely atmosphere. Adore the way it's composed. Definitely not as dark but certainly still very melancholic. Yeah, hip-hop has a bad reputation because of the American scene. Apparently, as long as you ignore that shit heap, it can be very good. As you said yesterday, trip-hop is a spin-off to it, so there must be some decent artists floating around. I'm not averse to rapping in the right setting but I'll look to avoid it if I can. Shiyugosha have been noted.

With the first band, there appears to be a very heavy Portishead influence but with far less melancholy. The hip-hop aspect is definitely overt but, as you say, it's inoffensive. I loved that song. The acoustics/violin make it all the more interesting. Vocals are great, too. The second track I was bound to enjoy. It's very much like Tricky's early solo work (Maxinquaye). Dark, hypnotic and emotive. You made a big U-turn. Your first message was negative but the last was positive. Heh.
