Hey man, thanks for the shout, great taste yourself! I've been meaning to really deep dive FSOL's stuff, I just can't believe how insanely boundary pushing they still are, it's hard to keep up with all their stuff these days! I've barely scratched the surface with their From the Archives stuff man. What's your favourite album of theirs post-2010?

That's a really tough one! Been listening to a lot of Archived 9 recently, bit more synthetic than usual FSOL but a very lush-sounding IDM. Also a big fan of E6.5, full of epic, expansive melodies, and FTA7 as well, more of a classic FSOL sound - this time in ancient deserts with dusty breakbeats. Haven't caught up on the last few years but I've seen a lot of praise for the E7 trilogy too!

Yeah man, we have a crazy amount of commonality in our taste wtf. Also find it so funny that you propose the action to me before doing so 😂 last.fm peeps crack me up sometimes man. Thanks for popping by! I see you've listened to Justice, but have you listened to their Woman Worldwide live album? Genuinely one of the best electronic albums of the 2010's imo

nah man, it's not like that! Far from me to judge anyone for being weird, more that the instance of announcing the thing before doing so was interesting and kinda funny to me. Feel free to be as oddball as you need to, the stranger the better (for the most part) imo 😁

A Lost Connection, definitely a chilly album. It's reminiscent of Schubert's Winterreise. Thanks for the recommendation.

No worries! When you mentioned your city and the weather, I knew you'd get the vibe of that album 👌 Also I'm not all too familiar with Schubert, any pieces you recommend?

This is the final song in his Winterreise song cycle. You might recognize it if you've ever seen In Bruges. https://youtu.be/ZWK4bBGG44M?si=J2bRQ4PxQ24UKpSl

Thanks for the shout :) Yeah, we have a lot of top artists in common, it would be a shame not to connect! Check out some stuff from Sounds from the Ground when you get the chance, seeing as we have a lot in common like that, you'll definitely love a lot of their stuff. Try their albums Terra Firma and Luminal, let me know whatcha think

man I used to have such a shitpost urge on this site, now I'm just super curious to talk to people about random stuff on this site - like I wish groups were back, and imagine if there was an instant messaging aspect to last.fm?? Or like listening rooms to listen to stuff together?? (Though I think there's some licensing issues in that somewhere 😂). And yeah I agree with you, the compatibility thing only seems to be recent stuff - there's people I have high compatibility with where we have no top artists in common and I'm like wtf? And yeah I'd so want to access a log of all my comments, just to be nostalgic over my truly edgy teenage nonsense lmao. And yeah there is quite a difference between coming on here at 13 and 19, but you've been around on here long enough to have that nostalgia!

I still do and sometimes even indulge in it, but in a more civil way now lmao... I like your ideas, especially the listening rooms one, never thought about it before! Yeeeah man :D Cheers!

Yooooooo you're back!!! How's it going? I missed you! I was too young to really appreciate the wonders of connecting with so many psyheads on here back in '08 (can't blame myself though, I was barely even a teenager so my perspectives on life were SOOOO different), but as I've become a young adult myself now it's sad to see this place dry up! Makes me wish I was born 10 years earlier haha

Hellooo! It's great to hear from you! I've missed you too! <3 Gotta say, it was absolutely fantastic on here until they threw a wrecking ball into it, but, there's still loads of us out there, and personally, I've been offline for waaay too long! Hoping to hang around and definitely stay connected ~ SEnding HUge HUgs to you! :) <3 <3

How's life been? Yeah it's a shame last.fm went down the way it did, but there's still no other alternative I've found to this place. I wish they had groups back, that tags were better, more moderation, maybe even have like bandcamp integration or something idk, just some changes to get it back to some shade of its former glory but alas, it is what it is. I need to find more psyheads out there! tbh I haven't been to many gigs and events but I'm looking to get more into them next year. Just seems like the genre has had its peak days and a lot of artists struggle to pay the bills through their art so they're either forced to feed the algorithm so to speak, or change to some other medium. Maybe I'm wrong (and I sure hope I am) that the psy community is still thriving wonderfully out there somewhere...

Dude, that's nuts. I've always wondered where on Earth all the other Forest/Starstream/RadioIO Ambient/Waveform peeps are at! It's great to meet you, I've definitely branched beyond just the exotic electronica of Forest's magic, but that whole scene is always my home. No matter what life throws at me, when I listen to that world of music, I return home. You'd love my playlist "psyome" if you've seen my Spotify too!

Same, I'm all over the place musically (always have been) but downtemp/ambient/groove always seems to bring me back. As kids my parents played Andreas Vollenweider, Enya and Ray Lynch on cassettes in the car, must have baked in 👍 Plus my kids (oldest now 21) have always had eclectic music in their playlists as a result, walking in to their room to hear ISHQ or Lemon Jelly playing on their phone is always cool

It was a cassette from my parents that had Oxygene on one side and Equinoxe on the other that spurred my voyage into that realm of music. That and 2 other events but what's always interested me about this space is that I'm not much older than your eldest, so I only ever get to meet Forest fans a generation older than me! There's plenty on this site that listen to a lot of ambient/electronica, but yet to meet a Forest fan my age. Glad to hear you're educating them on the wonders of ambient/electronica though, I'd probably do the same if I ever go on to have my own family!

Maps makes some of the best dream pop out there imo. I explained his stuff to some friends roughly as "abstract arty pop" (with a few more stupid terms stuffed in) and after putting it on one of them said "the way you described it made it sound like we'd be listening to some awful pretentious avant-garde stuff, why didn't you just say dream pop? This guy is great!"

I discovered two of their songs through Dimension5. I had an account around ten years ago and he made futuristic electronic mixes with so many various songs. The songs Transportation Nonstop and Sky City 1000 were on the mixes. Can't remember which one I heard first. Maybe add Dimension5 too. He has a lot of stuff that you might enjoy. He's on my new profile too. I don't remember how I found Freedom Star tbh.

No worries, glad you got round to it! Completely forgot I recommended him haha. There's an incredible nostalgia to his work that's hard to portray to people, it's really unique. Got a smaller recommendation since I've seen you scrobble Aes Dana. Try "Haze (Celestial Mix", a really hauntingly beautiful piece that's been with me for over a decade and still retains its beauty :)

just read your post on the crystal method's divided by night from (almost) a decade ago - totally not late to the party. At first listen, I was a little disappointed in the entire album, but I ended up liking it a bunch. Legion of Boom is still my fav though. How bout you?

yeah I'm more of a fan of the older Crystal Method than their newer stuff, though their newer stuff is not bad at all tbh, I'm just a sucker for their breakbeat/big beat style stuff. Vegas is probably my favourite from them. If you like Legion of Boom, I'd recommend you try the album "I Choose Noise" by Hybrid, very similar vein of breakeat and big beat music but also mixed with orchestral elements and fantastic vocals. Thanks for popping by!

Well yeah, life is kicking you (in the nuts) I mean away from PC (personally last moth I spent on PC just about 4 day or so) :D Well, speaking about that HL doc movie it's basically highlighting and summing up stuff, and will be informative in case you don't constantly follow every little piece of information that suddenly appears simetimes... And I'd rather listen to Meat Beat Manifesto with Ice Cube raps on them. Actually their stuff really similar to those funky beats around Death Certificate album period.
