West Coast Hip-Hop refers to any type of hip-hop from the west coast. The west coast is usually considered the birthplace of boogaloo and popping, dancing that was associated with early electro-hop. The west had old school hip-hop rappers like Disco Daddy & Captain Rapp. Later, the west coast would ignite gangsta rap in 1986-1987 with artists like Ice T and N.W.A. After the Golden Age of Rap ended in 1990, the west coast continued to contribute with artists like Dr. Dre, who created yet another sound, G-Funk, dominant from 1992-2000. The west coast hip-hop sound continues to evolve. Although these contributors represent some of the basic west coast contributions, the list is by no means complete and anything released by a west coast artist is considered west coast hip-hop, regardless of the time period or sub-genre.

Today hip hop artists with elements of hyperpop, such as ayesha erotica and fellatia g are known to emerge from the west coast's scene.
