Wiki

Subgenre of Folk Metal that features Celtic Folk elements. Common additional instruments are bagpipe, whistle, fiddle, flute, bodhrán or hurdy gurdy, among many others. The origins of the genre can be traced to Skyclad, the first Folk Metal band, who added Celtic Folk influences into some songs among other forms of folk, being "The Widdershins Jig" the first song that included Celtic Folk elements in 1990. At the same time, in Ireland, bands like Cruachan and Waylander evolved from Black Metal adding typical Irish Folk Music instruments, while in Spain, Mägo de Oz evolved from the popular Celtic Rock into a more metallic sound. Celtic Metal is localized on regions with celtic roots like the British Islands, France, Spain, Switzerland and Germany, but in the last years the genre has expanded worldwide, for such different countries like Argentina, Brazil, Russia, or Japan. Other famous bands include Eluveitie, Suidakra, and Tuatha De Danann.
