In “Smithereens,” Tyler Joseph writes a “slick song” for his wife, Jenna Joseph. To demonstrate his devotion, he describes a hypothetical situation to show how far he would go to protect her, despite the consequences to his own well-being.

Despite twenty one pilots' boom in popularity over the past few years, he wants both Jenna and the world to know that he’ll never be above writing a sweet song for his wife, even if it gives fans and/or critics the idea that he’s selling out.

"What does he mean by the line "I'll be in the corner taking notes"?"

Tyler is referring to his introverted side. Usually when in social situations, introverts tend to stay off to the side and not engage in the conversation or activity as much as the rest of the group. Most introverts use this time to observe what is going on, taking mental notes of the interactions the others are having. Tyler may be doing this same thing.
