Biography
Originally from Philadelphia, Charlie Belle is an indie-pop U -18 band, based in Austin TX. Their popularity grew after being featured in USA Today's Pop Candy column which highlighted their rendition of the song Strange Powers for the promotion of the documentary Strange Powers: Stephin Merritt and the Magnetic Fields that they recorded in 2009. Made up of brother and sister duo Jendayi (guitar and lead vocals) and Gyasi (back up vocals and drums), when they learned Zoe (bassist of the now defunct The Sisters Grimmm) was looking for a band, a new 3-piece was born. In 2012, Charlie Belle made their festival debut at The Austin City Limits Music Festival, and local festival favorite Art Outside. Charlie Belle is part of the new generation of Austin live music. They are an annual fixture at internationally known SXSW, and regularly play many of the popular Austin clubs.
