Biography
When the Italian band Malajerba split up in 2005, after almost 10 years of gigs and hard work, four fifths of the band members decided to continue working together. Hence Captain Quentin came to existence. The band's new name is a combination of Captain Beefheart, the 70's American artist who's genius was as remarkable as his madness, and the decadent Quentin Compson of Faulkner's "The Sound and the Fury". Captain Quentin are an instrumental rock band who's musical influences oscillate between hard noise and the maze-like structure typical of math rock, held together by an attitude which is definitely indie. The decision to totally exclude vocals places the music, and all of it's geometrical elements, at the centre of the listener's attention, while a careful choice of song titles attempts to alleviate the tension created by the notes.
Captain Quentin are Massimo Carere (drums), Enzo Colarco (synth), Michele Alessi (baritone guitar) and Filippo Andreacchio (guitar). In October 2006, a year after the band was formed, Libero Rodofili (bass and saxophone) joined the group. The band have just recorded their first album at Red House Recording Studio in Senigallia (AN). The album, which has been out since March 2007, is called "Certe Cose Determinate". It includes 8 tracks and lasts a total of 40 minutes and was recorded live by Massimiliano Moccia. Captain Quentin played many live shows including gigs with the likes of Joe Lally (Fugazi), Confuse the Cat and Mashrooms, to name but a few.
