4:46 this guitar part is so fucking awesome, I have no idea how Steve Howe does that.

It's crazy how quickly they evolved to this brilliant and jubilant sound, where on the last album they were sluggish and listless. But the talent was always there, I suppose. It was just a matter of the right moment and time and the right people to steer the Yes ship to progressive heights that little few can claim they reached as well. One of the best opening tracks of all time. Welcome to The Yes Album.

I realise that Anderson singing "armies gather near", and that makes sense since it rhymes with "their morals disappear", but on the studio version it really, really sounds like he's singing "armies scatter the earth". That's what I've heard since the first time I heard the song. He definitely says "gather near" on every live recording I've ever heard, though (which is about a dozen of them by this point). Incidentally, I'm pretty sure the expanded instrumental midsection in the live versions was the basis for part of "Mind Drive". Squire plays almost note-for-note the same bass line.

One of my very favorite Yes songs, it always puts me in a good mood. The version from Yessongs is the best, IMHO.

Band maintains its sound; creating music is about one key for all the albums. It should be noted that the team is trying to squeeze out all the creative juices, the entire potential. The band is still very, very recognizable. However, looking at the membership does not have to wonder.

The biggest diffrence of seeing Yes live is whether Rick Wakeman is playing with them or not. Seeing Yes without Rick Wakeman is great and fine but Yes with Rick Wakeman is bleeping outstanding.

That doesn't sound like Steve Howe on guitar. Sounds like some Eddie Van Halen wannabe when you here the solo.
