Spotify should NEVER be a source for what is true about a bands discography. Xymox is Xymox. Clan of Xymox is Clan of Xymox. They are separate as albums go. Spotify separates and combines incorrectly for many artists, It's why I just collect what I like and listen to it on my own, outside of Spotify, so for over a year now I pretty much don't use Spotify, it just enrages me to see this sort of ridiculousness.

Nah they really need to be merged with COX, because Ronny himself probably doesn’t know what he wants. On Spotify/AM, Twist Of Shadows, Blind Hearts and Subsequent Pleasures are on COX page (despite being credited to Xymox initially), while there are two different pages for Xymox that have Metamorphosis and Headclouds on them (not just one Xymox but two!). As of August 2022, Phoenix is unavailable on both platforms (for me at least), but probably it would have been on one of two Xymox pages.

After leaving 4AD in the late 1980s a couple of releases were just under the name 'Xymox'. These were lighter more 'pop' than the 'Clan of Xymox' and 'Medusa' albums. They had started heading in this direction with the 'Blind Hearts'/'Scum'/'A Million Things' 12 single on 4AD (BAD711) in late 1987. Ronny reverted to using 'Clan of Xymox' again in the 1990s marking a return to the more darkwave style.

Wikipedia is bullshit, since all their genre tags are taken from journalists - and journalists are pestilence of music industry (or world in general) knowing nothing, but writing anyway. Xymox music was always different, starting from official logo, ending with the most important - music. It's different era, and should be separated. If you want to contrary-site for Wikipedia, having artists separate, here you are: https://www.discogs.com/artist/44614-Xymox

I don't think Twist or even the album tracks from Phoenix are that different from earlier work. But Metamorphosis and Headclouds certainly are.

There are bands that musically changed MUCH more than (Clan of) Xymox without changing the name, like Ulver or The Gathering.

Ronny changed the name to make it shorter, not because of the direction. Still, CoX and Xymox should remain separated. You can't change history. They were Xymox for 4 albums.

Love how different Xymox is from original band - 'Twist of Shadows' is my favourite discovery from whole year 2016 (and it's still the most "Clanish" from whole Xymox discography) but the other albums are very solid. Couldn't get into them that fast as it was with ToS, but after getting into it becomes the most atmospheric albums in whole gothic music. Also, some tracks from my beloved 'Metamorphosis' are extremely dark and disquieting.

NEW ALBUM COMES :)))I found this review : Ronny Moorings’ passion for huge, sensual melodies, mystical sound experiments and seductive dance rhythms is as unbroken as it ever was. Melancholy, energy and determination rule “Darkest Hour”, a record whose tracks “My Reality” or the hypnotic club hit “Delete” will work on any dancefloor, but that also delivers gripping entertainment and world-class Goth hymns with “Dream Of Fools” or the breathtaking “Wake Up My Darling”. Crowned, as usual, with Ronny’s unmistakable vocals instilling the necessary dark passion into his Dark Wave elegies. An impressive 30 years have passed since the founding of CLAN OF XYMOX – a period being revisited on the new album and leading to ten modern Dark Wave classics ready to be instantly introduced into the canon of gloomy music. To be released on Ronny Moorings’ birthday, “Darkest Hour” is music for the night, is music for life and for death, is music for eternity.

is the same band, this is the original name then changed in Clan of Xymox. But they published Twist of Shadows under the short name...i'm not sure but i think it is due to discographic label troubles

New XYMOX story including interviews with all original band members! www.unruhr.de published a new XYMOX biography. In contrast to the most XYMOX stories which are told from Ronny's viewpoint, contains this biography also statements and interviews from Pieter Nooten, Anka Wolbert, Bert Barten, Frank Weyzig and of course Ronny Moorings. Read about the forgotten Clan of XYMOX song "Move the glass", the truth about the songwriting, rise and fall of the major act XYMOX and about the mostly unknown Headclouds Tour in 1994. i realize it's a different period, but i honestly wish they'd link CoX & this page together for sheer convenience. Moorings has been involved with it the whole time. Plus, if they were linked, CoX would be my top 2nd played band instead of just 3rd ;-) I totally agree with LordDream... Twist of Shadows DOES own!

I've been listening 'Headclouds' driving from home to work, and the other way around, day in and day out. Fantastic record, I enjoy it very much!

It was included to Subsequent Pleasures released not under name "Xymox" (1984) but later as "Clan of Xymox"

Xymox and Clan of Xymox are different (though the same) artists. Different eras of Clan of Xymox belong to just Xymox

(Clan of) Xymox was established by Anke Wolbert, Ronny Moorings and Pieter Nooten. It was first and main line-up, and though they changed their name into Xymox it stayed the same until Headclouds, actually after that album Anke and Pieter left the band and then Ronny changed the name again into Clan of Xymox. After that Mojca came and she is now only constant member of CoX, beside Ronny. So, my point is - Xymox period is refered only to Anke, Pieter & Ronny, especially cause she had a big part in writing lyrics and all..so that's why here should be only the pics of the band in that period :P
