Oh, is it time to point out AGAIN how the complaints never change? Alright then, here's a review of The Silent Force from 2007: "Silent Force and [The Heart of Everything] are more pop oriented and aimed at an American fan base. It is a product, designed to be more accessible to the masses in order to generate more record sales. Excuse the references if they are over done, but I find that Within Temptation's more-accessible albums like The Silent Force and The Heart of Everything lack the creativity and originality once present in their music. If you want music that is very melodic, easy to listen to, and can still somehow be called 'metal' in any way, choke down this angst-ridden copy cat of a copy cat CD." http://smile.amazon.com/review/R35VYU9WCSAOLT/

2004: "I would not call [Mother Earth] gothic metal by any means; if anything, it's pop music with some guitars, in the vein of Lullacry but not as heavy." http://smile.amazon.com/review/RRE21LEV3CSII/ More from 2005: "Please sample [The Silent Force] before wasting the time and money for so little return. Expect easy tunes, refrain repetition, synthesized voice, stupid lyrics, and the new pop culture look that goes with commercial sellouts." http://smile.amazon.com/review/R36L5VY4L8OIW4/ "This CD is metal no longer, it's just Goth-pop-rock. It seems that WT have purposefully made their music more accessible, with a 'pop' edge to it just to sell more albums. This is sad because bands should just make music how they want it without the thought of making money." "Her voice has been toned down on the Silent Force and in parts she sounds like Britney Spears! (especially in Stand My Ground). That really baffled me." http://smile.amazon.com/review/R2LUCMGX73UERU/

WT's basically been pop-metal since "Mother Earth" with their only tr00 goffik metalz album being "Enter", and that's fine - they're good at it. This new single is probably their heaviest one since at least "The Howling", and it's certainly heavier than "Ice Queen" (though I prefer both of those songs but that's personal taste obviously). "The Reckoning" isn't my favorite WT song, but I don't hate it, and the video itself is pretty well done.
