Originally written for Weezer’s unfinished rock opera Songs from the Black Hole that was scrapped for what eventually became Pinkerton, “I Just Threw Out The Love Of My Dreams” became one of the few songs from that abandoned project that saw completion and release when it was included as a b-side for “The Good Life”, retaining the female lead vocal parts sung by Rachel Haden as originally conceived. The song was also included on 2010’s deluxe reissue of Pinkerton.

In its original context, “I Just Threw Out The Love of my Dreams” is the lament of a character in the opera, Laurel, who has just turned down the advances of Jonas, the protagonist of the story.

The song starts off strong with a powerful punch by Rachel Haden and the instrumentation just carries the song immensely, with the obvious space theme in tow. The bridge and overall sound of the guitar is just amazing and gives you just a taste of what could have been with this forgotten project with Weezer.
