WOOZI originally wrote "What kind of future" to be performed only during SEVENTEEN's IDEAL CUT Tour, during which every member had a solo performance. However, the song gained popularity after fan-recorded videos of its performance - both from IDEAL CUT and fellow producer's BUMZU STUDIO concert - were uploaded online. When asked if he would release a studio version, WOOZI responded that he sees it as a once-in-a-lifetime song that he would not officially release or perform again.

"I think it would be meaningless to have a 2022 version (of "What kind of future") since I would have to keep the unique emotions I felt at that time," he said during a 2022 live.

In 2023, in his letter to ASTRO's Moonbin after his passing, WOOZI promised he would release "What kind of future" officially on Moonbin's birthday, as a present to him. In part, the letter read, “What kind of future, the song you kept asking when I’d release it, that you wanna listen to it on a streaming source, the song you kept singing. I’ll take responsibility whether or not I have to fight the company for it and release it on your birthday."

WOOZI dedicated the song to Moonbin in the album's description on Melon, in which he wrote, "In any future, I absolutely won't forget your smile that's full of love."
