Voivod kinda ruined most other bands (rock or metal) for me. They are so, so incredible good and unique that I can't really think on another band that I worship and connect the most... like, everytime I listen to KT, DH or NF or even AR, I'm just like "Yeah, they still the GOAT band, nothing can even compete with them, is not even close" what a absolute legends.

A few bands have made me feel that way in my music listening journey too. Opeth was certainly one of them. And relatively recently while I was full on into extreme metal I felt a bit like that after coming across Cerebral Bore and then Conquering Dystopia. But music is such a broad and diverse field of art that I eventually found bands that pulled me out of that void of not being able to appreciate other music that much. Bands/ artists can be so different from each other and make music that is so innovative and novel that if you keep listening you will surely find new stuff to enjoy and not remain stuck. Both of those situations though are beautiful in themselves on second thought. Some things were so good that someone got stuck, and then later new things were found that were just as amazing, that let one break free from the bondage they thought was restricting. And while I get it that you're not exactly complaining, this is just a short note of something similar that happened with me.

Unbelievable band. Albums from 2003 - 2009 are a bit weaker in my opinion (still very good), but last 10 years they are absolutely amazing. Synchro Anarchy is masterpiece.

Hate when I can't decide between War and Pain or Killing Technology for the day

Finally the very very old (1984-ish) photos have been outvoted. I think their late 80s photos are the best.

Voivod's music is classified as thrash metal, yet honestly it is nothing like thrash or any of the various kinds of metal in existence. Most will probably end up calling them experimental thrash metal, which in itself is an accomplishment if you ask me, because to make good music in that category would require some serious and out of the ordinary talent. They make the kind of music which has not been touched or explored by that many bands, and they do it so well. Their fans must really feel so special and grateful knowing that; I for sure do.

Honestly nothing like any metal in existence? I kinda could see your point but reading this while listening to War and Pain is hilarious. Clearly this is neoclassical acapella reggae with EDM influences hurr durr

That would be underrating/ misrepresenting their music and underestimating their abilities drastically. No offence to alternative metal bands but Voivod's music is not that straight forward and obvious at all. There is a heavy thrash metal influence in their later albums also, apart from some that are hard to classify, still, within whatever established category we may place them in.

I timed my plays so that the last song on Morgöth Tales would leave me at 6666 Voivod scrobbles. Unfortunately, I now want to listen to more Voivod. True agony

There is an aspect that Voivod has, that also The Residents have. Taking Technical off patterns and twisting it into a melody. Voivod goes nowhere near to the point that the Residents do, but they will always be prog made for prog fans and thats why they are so fucking awesome.

Voivod might be the only or at least one the very few bands that can actually succeed mixing shit like King Crimson, Rush, Bauhaus, Venom, Killing Joke, Gentle Giant, VDGG, Motorhead, Hüsker Dü, Black Sabbath, Slayer, Pink Floyd, Ramones, ELP, Judas Priest, Discharge, Siouxsie And The Banshees, Die Kreuzen, Hawkwind, Zappa and even composers like Stravinsky and Bartók into their music. I think that's why they are kind of an anomaly in rock music, not many bands dare to have those very diverse influences and successfully mixing them like they do on a lot or their albums... but of course, that's also what make them very unique in the great scale of things, these very contrasting influences helped to create one the greatest bands ever.

Heard these guys a few times as a kid in me early metalhead days but never "got it" back then. Went on YouTube and gave 'em another go and "Dimension Hatröss" hooked me in an instant. After all these years I finally do get it. But I must confess... as interesting and unique as they are, I'm almost as blessed (if not more so) by having discovered "War And Pain". It's like having two sides of a spectrum that is Voïvod and I'm in love with both.

voivod restored my faith in humanity, watered all my crops, paid off all my cars and mortgages, cured all my ailments, fed my family and pets, kept the heater running during winter nights, attended my wedding AND my funeral all in the same day this is amazing. love them
