Biography

Venice Sunlight is a four-piece rock jawn based in Philadelphia, PA. Originally formed in late 2006, the band settled on its classic line-up in 2009 - Jayson Verdibello (vocals, guitar); Dave Cohen (guitar, vocals); Steve Krostyne (bass guitar, vocals); Alex Brown (drums, percussion). Alex and Dave were long-time friends that had played in bands together previously and met Jay through a former bandmate; they found Steve via Craigslist ad, an origin story truly worthy of a Marvel Comics franchise.

The band put out EPs in 2010 (Vs. the Rabid Rabbits) and 2011 (Vs. the Sophomore Slump), both co-produced by John Faye of IKE and Jonathan Low (The National, The Menzingers). The band continued to build strength regionally off of those releases.

In 2013, the band released a holiday EP, Vs. the Aluminum Poles. The cover of Harvey Danger's "Flagpole Sitta" from this release has been the group's most notable hit… at least if Spotify's numbers are to be believed.

Venice Sunlight released its long-awaited full-length debut, Vs. the Swingers and the Saints, in August 2016. Produced by Joe Reinhart of Hop Along, the album continued the evolution of the band's sound into territory closer to a classic rock palate. The record's second single, "Masquerades on Saturdays", won WSTW's Homey Award for Alternative Song of the Year.

The group has been on "light hiatus" since 2017 but have been working on new material for a follow-up release if social media is to be believed.
