I honestly have not been able to tell the difference so far in terms of voice. Was actually surprised when I learned the band had two distinct main singers

Never was a huge fan of Van Hagar when growing up but nowadays I'm definitely more open to it. This isn't as good as the Roth albums but it's still pretty darn good. The musicianship that defined VH (both eras) is as strong and fun as ever. I just wish the drum sound and production overall weren't so artificially 80's slick.

Didn't expect to like this album, but I really like it! And Sammy Hagar is great. Big difference from the Roth era, but still good.

Sammy vs DLR is the same as Dio vs Ozzy. In both cases, the first vocalist happened to be around when the band recorded their best material, and had charisma, but their technique, voice and personality was a huge letdown. Sammy isn't just a better singer, he's a better human being too. And that should really count for something. Best VH singer.

the guitar on 5150 (the song) is just stunning. gives me goosebumps every time! this is the album that got me into van halen, i remember when somebody played me 1984 after i had heard this and was pleased that sammy hagar was the new vocalist. he appeals to me much more than david lee roth.
