tbh I've been cautiously optimisitc after the first singles. Now that Phantoma is out I do find it pretty good but compared to Apex and Abyss a tad lacking intensity-wise. Ph4/NT0mA, Buried in Code and The Collective are great but I wish they'd loosen the reins a bit more on other tracks too. Let's just not talk about "Give It Up Or Give It All"... 🙉

I thought the same. The album lacks some power even in the fastest songs, though I expected that based on the singles. The "epic" song isn't even close to epic. They were on a crescendo with Dreamcrusher, Apex and The Wind That Shapes the Land. Overall still a good album but not as good as Apex and Abyss.

I might be the only person on the internet who really, really likes "Give it Up or Give it All." I'd probably just change the song title, but that's it.

Pure power of metal, Brittney is one of my absolute favourite power metal voices, what a lady!

I absolutely love their new album Abyss. I already bought CD. It's my first UtA album i have listened, because when i discovered this band couple years ago they quite discouraged me with song called "Test Your Metal", when i was like "what the fuck?! Song called "Test Your Metal" in fucking 2015?!". But everything's changed when video for title track Abyss popped up on my YouTube account and i was stunned how good that song is. But entire album is excellent. I like power metal with strong female vocals and UtA is reliable choice \,,/

🤣 Test Your Metal isnt even their peak of cheesiness, "Tonight We Ride" seemed to be an excuse to really use Brittney Slayes vocals. Good song but it was like when she was at her highs 😬 she could destroy bulletproof glass with that voice.

To borrow the language of these albums, Apex has higher peaks, but lower valleys. After spinning Abyss seven times, I can confidently say that I enjoy it as an album more than Apex because (in this metal aficionado's opinion), there are no bad songs. However, Apex has "Call Me Immortal" and "Apex," which are two of the best songs I've heard in the last ten years of any band, and nothing on Abyss surpasses them. But I do skip "False Walls" and "Earth and Ashes" so it's not perfect.

I'm not sure if "Abyss" tops "Apex" as my favorite, but it's most certainly a fantastic album with no bad songs anywhere to be found. I think the best tracks on here have to be "Legacy" due to the way it combines soaring melodies with blastbeats (the guitar work and drumming are both awesome!), and "Faster Than Light" because it's just a kick ass classic-style power metal song. They've definitely become one of the best current power metal bands with these last few albums.

I'm still on my first playthrough, but "Legacy" is also the first song that has really wowed me so far, when just about every song on "Apex" blew me away on first listen. Still fantastic, though. Looking forward to having this one on regular rotation.

After many years of not listening to any Power Metal, i am glad to say that this band has introduced me back to the genre. Can't wait for the new album.

Same. I think I listen to one power metal record a year as the genre doesn't inspire me. But these Canadians add just enough thrash to make it not only interesting, but powerful.

Honestly? Same. I can't think of any other active power metal bands I actively listen to other than UtA. Brittney's vocals are great without being over the top, and the music isn't super cheesy, and has some great heaviness to it. Perfect power metal for me personally.

I was excited for Abyss after hearing the title track. But now that I've heard "Soulbound," I absolutely must have this record right the F now.

These last couple days have been great for power metal, that much is for sure. "Apex" was such an amazing album, I'm definitely looking forward to "Abyss"!

"Apex" is one for the ages. Once that galloping harmonized riffing kicks in, it's instant goosebumps, uncontrollably head thrashing, complete body takeover. The album isn't perfect, but it has enough killer cuts to stay on heavy rotation for a long time. And I agree with RF -- I saw them live in Chicago last year and not only were they an excellent act, they seem like genuinely cool and fun people.

Brittney Slayes indeed. Her guest vocals on the new Dire Peril record are outstanding too.

Would not tag this as death metal.. this feels highly like power metal with some growls here and there.
