Discothèque is the lead single and first track from the 1997 album Pop. It got to #1 on the charts in many countries including the US Modern Rock chart and UK Singles Chart in February 1997.
It begins with a distorted acoustic guitar that is passed through a loud amplifier and a filter pedal, along with being processed through an ARP 2600 synthesizer. The song's riff and techno / funk dance rhythm are then introduced. The break in the song's rhythm section features guitar sounds utilizing "Big Cheese", an effects pedal made by Lovetone.
Discotheque contains a sample from "Fane" by Freeform and written by Simon Pike.
